what is average carat size purchased in the USA?

hello all

amidst studying for finals and checkin out the new diamonds in the e-ring folder, I was curious about something. What is the average carat size purchased in the USA for engagement diamonds? the thought came up as I was viewing all these huge rocks in the show me the ring section. actually now that I think of it...are engagement diamonds going up in carat size on the average? not that it will have any effect on what I purchase, I guess it is just to satisfy my curiousity!! thanks!!
