what is an eglusa ideal plus cut?

Can someone tell me what an ideal plus cut is? It is on a diamond certification from EGL

depth 61.4%
pavillion 42.6%
8.08x8.04x4.95
polish and symmetry both very good
no flouresence
cutlet none
girdle 1.7%- 3.3%
vs2, i color
18,600

that is all the measurements I have

I believe it is just a description that EGL use to describe a diamond which they consider to have an " ideal cut". However these labels don't guarantee you a well cut stone. The table is a little bigger than we normally see here, but to properly judge the cut, we need the crown and pavilion percentages, these should be on the report. Have you seen this diamond in person and is it one your jeweller lady suggested?

Yes, it is one that she is suggesting and I wanted to get some opinions before I went in there to look. I am struggling with the choices she gave me. I posted another option she provided in another post so your advice is most greatly appreciated lorelei!

Ok, I will go and find the other option, I must have missed it! Can you get the crown and pav percents for this one please, as it is hard to really tell without them. Personally I would prefer a smaller table in the region of 54- 58%, but the angles are important to know, so if you could get those that would be great.

ETA - I checked out your last option, the I SI1 it looks promising. One thing, I would check very carefully that the very thin part of the girdle isn't a durability issue, if that checks out then it looks to be worth consideration. Will you be able to see that one in person?

Thank You!! How about the strong Blue Flourescence? What should I look for there? You dont think the crown is too shallow on that? I know I need to see in person, also I think.

Strong blue fluorescence can cause a diamond to look cloudy or oily in some lights, which includes some bright sunlight, but this is extremely rare. See if you can take the diamond outside to have a look for yourself. As to the crown angle, I would prefer to see it steeper, around 33 degrees thereabouts with the pavilion angle, but it appears to work in harmony with the pavilion angle in this case. My concern is for the girdle, make sure the very thin part isn't a durability issue.

The jeweler said the girdle was not a durability issue at all.. but I will still be careful. The ring sparkles like mad and it appears bluish only at very spefic angles in the sun.. very cool.

This is the GIA graded diamond? You could get an appraiser to have a look at the very thin part of the girdle to make sure, that might be a good move, and make the sale final on it checking out.

But it sounds as if you may have found your diamond, congrats!

yes, this is a GIA graded diamond. they mounted it in the setting and it seems fine. I will probably get it appraised and definately insured in case something happens.

I went to the appraiser today and he said that the very thin part of the girdle was under 3 facets of the diamond on one side.. he said it was not a durablility issue.
that was a relief. I also posted this had some thin black lines, which unfortunately seem to be an inclusion, but when I was viewing the diamond in normal conditions I really did have a hard time finding it.
Thanks for all of your help, as this seems to be the chosen stone. The appraiser said we got a fair deal, probably 2-3 thousand less than a high margin retailier. He said he would tell his sister to wear this one and enjoy it.
