What is my favorite THING about fall??? As if I could pick just one. . . .

l) Leaves: falling/colorful/whirling in the breeze/making a carpet on the ground.

2) A relief from the heat of TX in the cooler breeze. See, in TX we have 4 seasons: HOT, Not So Hot, Not Really Hot, and Comfortable. Here in the middle of the state we occasionally experience cold. Once in a blue moon, we get ice or snow. But mostly we get comfortable. Until we get HOT.

3) The slant of the sunlight.

4) The smell of the air.

5) Pumpkins. Mums. Guords. Indian corn. I decorate for fall. Big time.

6) Clear blue skies, and usually lower humidity. (Not necessarily the case this year, however.)

Fall is my favorite season. Even when I was a Midwesterner, and I knew darn good and well what ''delightful ''weather lurked around the corner, I loved fall.

DH loves it because he says it''s arrival means we get at least 5 months of tolerable temperatures.
I hear ya Holly....I''m in Katy, TX and we''re finally getting some relief down here!

Fall is my favorite time of year and I love all of the holidays...Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. The excitement that comes with the cooler weather, decorations, leaves changing and falling, the hoot owls that pass through, just EVERYTHING that comes with Fall.

Personally, I hate the fall and winter (I''m a summer girl; I get cold VERY easily, so I despise fall because it means winter is next). I love the 90 degree weather, hot sun, and sweltering humidity.
Right there with ya PP! I love late spring and all of summer, but I hate hate HATE cold weather with a passion. And here on the East Coast it seems to plummet straight into frigid winter without the nice smooth transition that spring provides on the other end of the year. I always wonder "where did fall go?" Anyway, there are 2 things I like about fall: my birthday (10/17) and Halloween. That''s about it.

I''ve really gotten into gardening, but as much as I love it, by the time fall comes I''m ready for a break. For me, fall gives me a reason to not feel guilty about taking a break from gardening duties. It also means I''ve got five or six months to research and plan for next year''s new plants.

I also love the smell in air and cool nights sleeping with the windows open.

Ooh fun! I''m a Michigan gal too. :)

I love Cider mills and their donuts and cider, colorful leaves, temperate weather (not too hot, not too cold), crisp sunny days (hate the rainy ones though - like today!), fall clothes and nail polish colors, my son''s birthday, our anniversary, Halloween, - lots of things!

I think I love everything already mentioned about fall. It''s our favorite season.

everything. i''m a "fall" person.

-well that was when I was a kid

Take a trip up here D&T! We had a battle royal in the backyard while raking leaves last year w/the kids and my parents! Dad had crumbled leaves in his mustache and Trapper had them in his diaper!

How the smell of the air changes.

The lack of humidity! We''ve had two days without it so far. And I can''t wait for just weeks and weeks of low humidity!!

The smells, the colours, hot chocolate and apple cider by the fire, the knowledge that holiday season is just around the corner!

For a generally solitary person, I''m a complete sucker for get-togethers and family events and the "closeness" of the wintery seasons. The anticipation of it all in Autumn definitely makes it the best season

ahhhh yes, I miss this too!!!

Mmmm Fall !

Things I love:

It being cool enough to spoon while falling asleep

Bringing out the down quilt

Sweaters, scarves and jackets

The kickstart my nesting instinct gets - I actully feel like tidying up

The yellow of the sagebrush blooming

The changing colors of the leaves

The different cloud shapes

The sun starting to go down early (it makes me feel cozy to walk home in the dark)

Halloween and all it''s trappings

Early Canadian Thanksgiving (Oct 12) - all the veggies, fruits and pumpkins are ripe now

Rememberance day poppies

Walking on frosty grass in the mornings

Rain (I live in a semi-dessert area due to being in the rainshadow of a mountain range and it rains maybe 5 times between May and October)

Fall Fairs

Pie

Everyone coming home from vacations, weekends away etc. and getting back to school or settling down to buisness.

Reconnecting with friends

(Sometimes I daydream about living in California, Florida, Arizona or Hawaii and wonder about the subtle changes fall manifests there)

The smell of wood smoke/ burning leaves in the air

fall crickets

Holly, I laughed out loud at your "4 Seasons of Texas". You are so spot on girl!! I was about to post and say "Fall, what is that?" But you described our sticky, mucky weather just fine. One good thing, no hurricane this year !
But during this time of year (notice I didn''t say Fall) I do love, love, love college ball. In fact watching A&M and Arkansas right now. I''m neutral on this one.
