What if you are unhappy with a custom setting?

I probably won't be and probably should not be stressing over things I can't control, but that is how my brain works!

I have a J colored stone being set with split shank pave (so thats alot of little stones). I'm really scared the little diamonds are going to be alot lighter than the main stone.... I've seen some postings of this situation and the rings are beautiful, but the color difference buts the shit out of me. I'm starting to wonder if I should have just gotten a plain solitaire or like rose gold..

I guess I won't know until I see it. Worst case scenario.. I can always ask the jeweler to redo it, right? Obviously, there will be a cost involved, but is this something that happens?:oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops:

Where in the design/manufacture process are you right now?

If you’re still in the early stages... if your vendor can source lower-coloured single-cut melee and you don’t mind spending a little more this concern can be mitigated...

Surely your jeweler will be matching the setting to your diamond?

What @yssie said.

OP, have you had the chance to see your diamond next to white meleè? People have different tolerance levels when it comes to mixing warmer stones with white meleè.

Unfortunately, i have kinda effed this one up as my ring is done in the next couple days (even though this was always a concern of mine. I should have spoken up earlier).
At what point are the melee put in? The ring was being "set" last week. Should I go ahead and inquire or would that just piss the jeweler off? (Its DK)

If it will be done in the next couple of days, I would probably wait to see it first, but maybe give DK a heads up that it is been something that just started bothering you . They must be already in the finishing stages. Maybe it would not be a problem at all for you, maybe you just need to see for yourself.

Ditto - call him as soon as you can and get his thoughts.

David is very helpful and wants his customers to be happy. You should email him and ask him what colour melee he used. He has a good eye. I’m sure your ring will be lovely.

Ok, I just wrote him! I really hate being THAT client.

Can I post a picture of the ring i saw on DK instagram that made me think of it? the Ring is beautiful, but is something I'm trying to avoid. Or is that in REALLY poor taste as the ring owner may be on PS?

On second thought, I better not do it.

Yes, I know which one. I wouldn’t post. Her stone is much, much warmer..maybe M/N, maybe even warmer.

And don’t worry about being “that” customer. DK is used to working with “picky ones” and he is super nice. He once redid something that I was unhappy with, so you are in good hands.

It will probably be fine as I don't even have a good eye.

Thank you for the help. I feel much better! : )

I didn’t see any difference between the colours when I wore it.

Not a problem :) everything will be fine, I am sure that your ring will be stunning!

I wouldn't worry until you see it in person. I had a 2.43 J in a halo with G melee... it was fine. Besides, even if you were to get lower colored melee to match your stone, they will still look whiter due to the teeny tiny flashes vs the larger flashes from your center stone.

DK usually uses G/ VS melee. I doubt you will see a striking difference. Plus, I agree, he has a good eye, I doubt he'd send out something that was mismatched. Maybe the IG ring you saw was what the customer wanted. He will send you a video before you pay too.

With jewelry, often the camera shows something very different than what the eye sees in real life. A lot of people, including me, see something different when looking at our diamonds in person vs. what we see when we first take a photo/video and then analyze it.

WOWZA! That thing is pretty!! Yeah I literally cannot see a difference at all. The J color totally is white to me! I think mine is closer to a K though (according to the appraisal guy).

Heard back from da man:
"We match the color melle to your stone. There will not be a contrast. The ring is still setting, thank you for the wait! "

Thank you all for the kind words! I'm going to stop worrying and just wait until I actually see it!

I am willing to bet you absolutely love your ring when it comes. I can’t wait to see it!

I just saw this. Sorry you are stressed out. Don't worry....DK will take care of you. I had similar concerns with my girl's H stone and the melee. Also, I was that picky customer, lol.

Amy @ DK assured me it would match and it did. Also when they saw the BGD stone come in, they upgraded the melee to a higher cut quality stone to ensure it matched that way too.

Really, DK is awesome. Amy assured me multiple times throughout the process if there were any issues they'd scrap it and start fresh as they cared mostly about me and my girl being happy. I was pretty amazed at that as most companies do not have the same mentality. But I think they are really driven to satisfy customers, which is why I recommend them so frequently.

MY RING IS READY!!!!!! He sent me a video! It looks a little bulkier than I originally wanted (but i kinda knew that from the CADs). I have norovirus right now, so will have to meet up later this week!! weeeeeeeee!

How exciting!
I'm curious though, I just sent back cad revisions and got an email back from DK saying they are closed until August 23rd??

They’re closed, but some people are still working. I’ve had a few emails with them over the past week and just received my ring today.

I'm going through this at the moment, I'm having my ring completely custom re-set. I went through everything in fine detail with the jeweller and I'm sure it will be beautiful but I'm still scared that when I see it there may be bits I don't like. I was never really happy with the original setting and have been contemplating a re-set for quite some time. I've decided now I'm going to love it no matter what and just enjoy it.

I'm sure your ring will be absolutely beautiful, please post pictures when you get it!

Yeah, I actually just got a video and news that my band they made ships tomorrow, and that I should have new CADS tomorrow for my other ring design. So, I'm a happy girl:razz:

You are probably talking about my ring- my stone is an L and TBH my main stone looks way more yellow in that video than it does in real life- AND DK did not source my side stones. Those stones were the original side stones of my e-ring.

It’s not yours!! I saw yours on instagram and I can barely tell a difference!! :) Your ring is so unique and cool! I love it!
