I upgraded from a 0.52 RB to a 0.93 RB.

My question now is the setting....

My 0.52 was in a cut-corner, square-ish shaped halo. It looks great on my finger and I''m going to have the basket remade to fit my new stone.

But now the options:

1. Should I keep the same unique halo shape or go for a round halo?

2. Should I bezel or keep the prong setting, like my original?

Your opinions, please!

I''m torn and must decide before the designer starts working on the CADS.

Here''s a pic of my original for comparison. Please note that I will be wearing the new ring with my wedding band, which is a smooth channel set. That may sway some opinions on setting styles

Wouldn't it make more sense to just start over with the setting as opposed to altering that one? They'd virtually have to remake the whole head anyway. That is a pretty ring and you could easily set a gemstone in it and use it for a right hand ring.

If you did that, I'd probably go with a round halo (see Angeline's new Maytal ring).

(Oh, and I really prefer prong set)

I think you should go with the same cushiony shape as your original one -- if you like that look, the round will look VERY different. But that''s a subjective call! I also like the prong set, just because it lifts the stone up a little bit to emphasize it -- plus you want to have the focus on your gorgeous new stone! :) Congrats!

diamondseeker2006 - Thanks for chiming in and for the ring references!

My original plan was to get an entire new semi-mount but the only setting I gushed over was/is the Ritani Endless with the half-moon sides, which I’m sad to say, is completely out of my budget

That darn setting cost more than my diamond

That's when I decided to talk to a custom ring designer. He said that he could remake the halo head for my new stone and then, at a later time, we could add the half moons - maybe as an anniversary present.

We would, of course, have to remake the ring again - but we'd use the halo basket in that design. Essentially, I will be splitting up the design projects. But in the end, I will have my round with half-moon sides in a halo. Some day…

Lane - I agree. The cushion shape does make it totally different and that's what I like about my current ering! It's not the normal round on round. I get a lot of compliments on the shape! Of course, the larger round will make the halo look even better - more of a dainty look! Thank you for chiming in with your opinion!

Kcoursolle - Matching a ring up with my current wedding band has been the most challenging. I've never considered not wearing my wedding band on my wedding finger as it means the world to me. DH's father is a minister. He officiated our wedding ceremony and blessed our rings so they are very sentimental to me and to DH. Almost more so than my ering - go figure???

And you're right - that Knox ring is awesome! Thank you for your input, kcoursolle!
