I'm curious to see what gives more coverage on a 5.75 -6 fìnger... A RB with a round halo or a cushion halo? Pictures would be appreciated :)

I think cushion... But you be the judge... It's close

1.30 cts
Size 5.75

First ering was the round halo...the reset was the cushion...

I think it depends on the size of melee you use. I agree with Mayk though probably the RB in a cushion halo as you have to soften up the edges of the halo and extend it out.

Yes, the size of the stones in the halo make a huge difference. You can see that the stones are larger in beautiful the cushion halo. In addition, you were looking at some settings with a milgrain edge on the halo, and those certainly were going to look larger than the cushion halo setting with the tiny pave stones.

The apparent size is the surface area. So it will depend on the outer diameter of the setting, regardless of size of melee. The cushion will roughly be the area of a square, LxW, with some corners rounded off. The round is pi (3.414) x D^2 / 4. (pi x diameter squared dived by 4). Even with corners rounded, a 1cm (10mm) outer diameter cushion halo is a greater surface area than a 1cm circle. But maybe not significantly so. What you are looking for is a large outer diameter, but with mounting and melee well-proportioned for your size of center stone. Only you can decide that. Measure how bit of an outer diameter you want you ring to be and them go look for a mounting that achieves that.

Outer diameter can be affected not only by melee size, but also by how the center stone mounts (prongs, airline or none, does center stone overlap the melee at all, or is it sunken down into a bezel then surrounded by halo melee which tends to spread things out the most.)

The cushion halo will look bigger because of the corners.

the cushion would have more finger coverage because, if you think about it, at least at the corners, there will be a larger space between the diamond and the halo at the corners.... it like trying to round peg in a square hole, to accommodate the round, youll have empty space in the corners.

to get the most finger coverage, i would probably both halo it and have a 3 stone....

I think it depends on the size of the centre stone, the size of the melee and the look you are trying to achieve. The cushion in a halo in theory does take more space, because of the final shape, having said that a cushion diamond will face and be substantially smaller in mms across than the same carat weight round stone.

If i remember she already has a .6 mm round.

O.K in that case then a cushion shaped one.

Thank you all for your help. It truly does help me with my decision. My poor husband told me he knows what he doesn't like and thats a plain ol' bezel lol.
