what exactly is this type of pave?

I''ve searched through the archives but can''t find exactly what I''m after. I tried on a gorgeous ring that had .03 stones set half way round. I''m fairly sure each stone had 4 prongs...so I know it wasn''t shared prong or channel set. When I looked at the profile of the band, there was a "u" shape where each stone was set. I know I''m not explaining myself very well but can anyone tell me what type of pave this is? I didn''t buy that ring but want a similar one made. Thanks.

The descriptions sounds like prong-set, not pave... and reminds me of a certain Daniel K band (see Pearlman''s Picture gallery here) and there are some other versions that come to mind. Does any fit?

Thanks for the reply but unfortunately those rings aren''t what I''m looking for. It was very late last night so hopefully I can do a better job this morning! If you imagine a whole band with little U scoops cut out of the metal where the diamonds are, only visible on the side. Any ideas???

Hmmmm, thanks everyone but it didn''t look like those either...the band was far more solid...it was almost as if the diamonds were set into the band but popped right out. I wondered if it was because it was only half eternity that it looked different but I don''t think so. I sure each stone had 4 prongs but you could see virtually no metal face up at all. Now this is getting seriously annoying!!!! Lol.

Thanks diamond-quester but that''s not it either! The u shape was very elongated...like a stretched u. I might even ring the jeweller in Brisbane and ask him what it''s called.

Thanks for your reply Ana but sorry, that''s not it! The prongs weren''t a separate part of the ring...the stones were set into the band and the prongs were just part of that...the U was to allow the stones to sit a little higher I think. It''s going to be my mission to find a pic of this ring!

Tiger, that''s very very close - the ring I looked at probably had smaller diamonds than that but I think it''s pretty much the same. You''re a star! Now, can you tell me what that''s called?!?!?

I''m sorry... I wish I knew a specific name for it!!

When I met with Pete at Quest, he showed me a few different samples with this style of pave. He just referred to it as "micropave." The rings I saw had teensy-tiny stones set like this...

Maybe if you''re going to have a ring made, you can get Quest to do it... that way you''ll get exactly this style!
