...and how does it affect the appearance of a diamond?

Does the symmetry grade mean different things for different cuts?

I did a quick search on PS and saw a few threads talking about the symmetry grade in relation to rounds, but am curious about the symmetry grade in relation to fancy shapes, like ovals, radiants, cushions...

Lovely PSers, please help! :)

Symmetry is exactly that, how symmetrically the diamond is cut. More symmetry is a good thing, but a stone with only VG symmetry can still be nice. Depends on how picky you are with your fancy cuts.

The same principles apply with lab graded symmetry in fancy shapes - this page might help.

As Miss Neat says, it depends how picky you are, but good and above for polish and symmetry are said to look the same to the naked untrained eye.

Hi Garry,

Thanks! That link is perfect. Just what I needed.

I''ve noticed that several of these articles have Russian authors -- why is that?
