I posted this in the colored stone section, but thought I might have more luck posting here...

I''ve emailed James Allen about their rubies in their colored stone semi mount and got this response:

"The only additional information on the rubies is that they are what is called "A" quality, which is midgrade. Midgrade" is my term for commercial quality - better than you will find in any jewelry store!"

What does midgrade/commercial quality mean in regards to gemstones?

The only thing I can think of is when I''ve searched for calibrated gemstones and for semi-mounts I would guess that they are calibrated. Some places (do a web search) give grades of B, A, AA, AAA with descriptions like included, slightly included, etc.

the "better than you will find in any jewelry store", I would take with a grain of salt.
