what does bump mean?

i am a little embarassed, but i dont get it. i have been here for a little while and have figured out everything else. i even saw a list of the acronyms and terms psers use and cant find anything about bump. i see it in posts followed by text and i have seen it being the only text in a post. what is it?

Bump just means someone is replying to "bump" the thread up towards the top.

If the thread isn''t getting replies, people will bump it so the thread will go to the top of the page.
