What does a stone with medium blue flourescence look like

Strange - I started typing and it submitted the post! My PC must be acting up.

Anyway, what i wanted to ask was how strong a blue medium blue fluoro is. My girlfriend really likes blue diamonds, which are WAY out of what I can afford, but I was hoping a medium blue fluoro might give some of that color she enjoys. Thoughts? Pics, which might be even better?

I don''t think that fluoresence is going to give the diamond a blue color in most lighting situations. Even in the ones that it does, it won''t look anything like a blue diamond.

Another option would be buying an irradiated blue diamond versus a naturally blue diamond. They are much cheaper, but the color is slightly different.

Looking for an irradiated blue diamond is your best bet. A diamond with blue fluorescence is not going to make your diamond look blue - even if it''s extremely stong - except in rare cases, and then only where the light hitting the stone contains UV (blacklight, sunlight, some fluorescent lights, etc.), or more energetic radiation - like X-rays - AND only during the time that that radiation is hitting the stone. Furthermore, the fluorescence appears as an ghostly "aura" (pretty cool actually), and it''s not as if it has been transformed to a blue colored material like an aqua or blue topaz.

As was mentioned above many irradiated blue diamonds have a much more saturated color and some secondary colors (like green and yellow) which make the final color unattractive. However, there are some which have a more true blue, windex type color, but you have to search for them. Predicting the final color produced by irradiation is getting better, but is not yet rocket science.
