Now to find a setting!!!

Looks very nice!

Congratulations on finding a beautiful diamond!

So what sort of setting are you thinking of?

Very nice, and 11.4% discount off of Rap. Love the specs, especially the table. After it is set, prongs cover some crown facets, so the table looks bigger. I think you will be glad that you have a sub 55 table...

Well I have picked out three bands, and welcome opinions on the three. My girlfriend is rather small, and wears a 4.75 or 5 ring so I don''t want something overwhelming.
1. 3.5mm (possibly too thick for my diamond?)

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones.asp?module=setting&cid=58&item=865&name=1226W

2. Diamond seems to sit low, will this make it look smaller?

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones.asp?module=setting&cid=58&item=887&name=1223W

3. Might be too thin?

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones.asp?module=setting&cid=58&item=266&name=1212

Also what is this11.4% below Rap.?

Thanks for all you help.

I love #2, and I don''t at all think sitting low makes a diamond look smaller.

Besides, don''t forget you''re going to be spending the rest of your life in bed with a hand wearing the ring.

Hi,
"Rap" is the "Rapaport Diamond Report" pricing sheet that the trade uses to normalize the pricing of diamonds by size, color, and claity, It does NOT take into account cut or cert (very important, of course). Rap prices are referred to as "high cash New York asking prices", or as someone else said "the price you would sell your best diamond to your worst enemy".

The price per carat of an H VVS2 (Jan 27 Report) is $4,500. You stone is 0.74ct, so the Rap price is $3,300. The retail on your stone is $2,950 (and could be 1.5% less if you wire $$), which is an 11.4% discount to Rap. This seems like a fair price on an AGS0, with a 30 day return.

I have no advice on setttings.

Sincerely,
David

I love #3! I think it''ll add the perfect amount of delicate sparkle without being overwhelming. Good job on the diamond!

Hello it’s me again, and I have yet to decide on a setting. I am now have some more information #2 is 4.5mm and #3 is 3mm around the finger and 4mm at the diamonds. I am now also considering the sleek lines solitaire form whiteflash. My girlfriend finger size is 4.5, she loves the outdoors, has a somewhat plain style (jeans and polo’s). So I don''t want anything too fancy. She only wears earrings so I really can’t judge what kinds of jewelry she likes. Based on these facts which do you think wound look best with the 3/4 carat round diamond I have purchased? Also I am open for any suggestions on other possible candidates.

the fine line

Congrats on finding a beautiful stone! If she''s a jeans/polo girl and you want something more delicate-looking for her hand, how about this half-eternity shared prong setting. It''s classic and simple with some sparkle. And shared-prong diamonds are secure enough for every day wear.

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones.asp?module=setting&cid=58&item=261

There''s also this tapered baguette setting. A very classic, simple, timeless look.

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones.asp?module=setting&cid=58&item=869

I think both are very delicate-looking and won''t overpower either the stone or your lady''s small hand.

I think eternity or pave is the way to go. A friend of mine always dresses very casual and has a pave setting and it looks great even with jeans......of course I am not much of baguette fan......not that there is anything wrong with that! A simple solitaire setting is great with an eternity wedding band. That way she can just wear one or both.

There are a few gals around here, myself included that are jeans and tee-shirts kind of gals. I don''t wear any other jewelry accept an occasional pair of earrings when dressing up. No watch, necklace, bracelet etc. but I love a beautiful e-ring. I agree that unless you know she''s set on a solitare, something with a little added sparkle in the band is always nice. I love both of the one''s Kristy linked.

the fine line
I agree with Julie. The fine line solitaire is lovely. And if she wants to add sparkle, it can be done with the wedding band.

Wow lots of great suggestions here. I am not sure that I like the baguettes, and am sort of concerned about the eternity style rings durability and comfort. One of the JamesAllen rings I posted had two diamonds on each side of the center stone that were basket set, what exactly is this and would it be durable? The whiteflash ring is not the fine line but the sleekline solitaire. One again thanks for the suggestion and keep the coming! Here is the sleeklines

I LOVE the setting you just posted..beautiful, classic, always in style...can dress it up with a diamond band, if desired.

I agree with diamond seeker. I think it would look fabulous with your center stone and a classic solitaire is always classy and in style..

Hello all I have been doing some more looking and I have found one other candidate. It is very similar to the sleek lines solitaire for Whiteflash. It is a Hello all I have been doing some more looking and I have found one other candidate. It is very similar to the sleek lines solitaire for Whiteflash. It is a Vatche from Wink Jones. I think that the decision is down to these two. The Vatche''s finish looks a bit better and the prongs look a little different. Here is the description from Winks site: Clean, simple, Vatche. This lovely classic holds a 1.5 ct round stone on a 2.1 mm band that tapers to 1.8 mm at the head. Which of these two settings do you experts thinks will look the best, and what are the pros and con''s of each. Thanks again!

I personally like the side view of the Vatche better

I think the Vatche is much prettier, the lines are more fluid. The head and prongs are nicer and the way the sides swoop up is very nice as well!

I''ll almost always go with Vatche, given a choice. Beautiful lines, very fluid and sleek!

I love that you''re leaning towards a solitaire. Nothing says "bridal" more than a traditional solitaire! And feel free to give your wife-to-be a new diamond band to wear with it at every wedding anniversary.

Yep! It seems that mrssalvo and I usually agree! (I wonder how much the price difference is, though. However I am one who paid a higher price for the tiffany 6 prong at Dimend Scaasi because I liked it better than the WF model).

ETA: I love Kristy's reasoning as well! Haha!

I love that Vatche setting. It was one of my contenders but I ended up having Wink set mine in a cathedral instead. That would be my choice between the two...I like the sleek lines from WF but the Vatche has always been one of my favorites

Well the price is about 750 more for the Vatche setting, but I am thinking it is worth it just not sure. The more I look at it the more I think it might just be the one.
