Looks promising. Ask for an idealscope image. Nothing good or bad with under 1 score, HCA is a rejection tool.

It scores 0.7 on the HCA I believe, is a score under 1 a good thing as it mentions most people look for 1-2 score but it doesn't really mention 0-1?

Thanks.
Hi vetenks

It has definite potential, request an Idealscope image from James Allen if you are seriously interested. This diamond would probably favour white light or brilliance due to the slightly shallower crown angle. The main issue with diamonds which score below 1 is obstruction. This is where shallower proportion combo stones or ones with shallow pavilion angles can darken visibly at close scrutiny due to the viewer's head/ body blocking the light to the stone itself. Idealscope images can be a good method of checking for obstruction for shallow angle combos or leakage in the case of steep deep diamonds or ones with a steep pavilion angle. So as you can see, it isn't a case that a lower score is better than a higher one and it is important to note the HCA is used for rejection not selection and images if you have them, trump the HCA results in every case. Concerning obstruction, your diamond looks fine from what I can tell and as the pavilion angle is a good balance for the crown angle, obstruction is unlikely to be an issue.

This page here goes into greater detail on the HCA and covers usage and warnings.

I take it you prefer high colour and clarity? This is absolutely fine, just to mention you could lower both and still have a very white and clean diamond if the cut is excellent, but this is a personal choice and if you prefer E IF, stick with it!

Thank you so very much for all your support, it is much appreciated! Sorry haven''t contacted sooner but sometimes struggle to fit time to discuss in depth on site, and as you forewell know an important decision such as this I don''t want to rush into any decision.

Anyway I am you says it has promise as I been eyeing this up and will request idealscope images as you suggested.

Yeah I do quite like to colour and clarity to be high, although not overly fussed it being a ''D'' as its jumps in price, just a colourless so I guess E-F with perhaps a ''G'' a possibility. Yeah the ''IF'' what really draws this to me, I know it makes no difference to a VS2 which should be eye-clean and even perhaps a SI1 but something about saying its a IF haha. If it wasn''t a IF I been thinking of considering dropping all the way to VS2 eye-clean which may give me some scope to having a higher carat weight.

Please don''t worry, we quite understand and its good to think through a purchase of this magnitude very carefully.

If you like the idea of IF then go for it, just bear in mind if the diamond gets damaged with small nicks or chips that the clarity grade could be lower eventually due to this, but if that isn''t a concern then fine!

Thank you for being so understanding.

Haven''t heard from JA yet regarding idealscope images but hopefully soon! Thanks for informing me about the nicks and chips I will bare this in mind.

In the meantime looked at this, if I sacrifice some clarity for carat, what do you think of this one? I am not familar with this site though?

Total depth is high, so you''re losing spread - it''s a good 0.15mm smaller in diametre than it should be.

You''ll want an IS for that c/p.

You are most welcome!

Yssie is right, it is a bit deep and too deep for me personally for this type of diamond. A well cut round of 1 carat should have the diameter of around 6.5mm so you can see this one is facing up small for the weight. Also as Yssie says, the crown and pavilion angle combo need checking with an Idealscope image as it is possible this stone will show light leakage.

I think you can do better, you can certainly sacrifice clarity but you want the cut quality to be great whatever you choose.
