I recently purchased the following engegement ring. What Do You Folks Think???

Diamond:

Round Brilliant (GIA)
6.58 - 6.64 x 4.24mm
Weight: 1.15 carat
Depth: 64.1 %
Table: 61 %
Girdle: Thin to Slightly Thick
Faceted
Culet: None
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Good
Clarity: SI2
Color Grade: H
Flour. None

Setting:

Custom Platinum Solitaire with 0.88ctw Round Pave

Do you guys think $6500 is reasonable for this ring or did they see me coming?? Please be honest I want the truth. Wish i found this site sooner. The salesperson insisted this was a great deal but after reviewing ths site I''m not sure.

Thanks

Do you have the crown and pavilion info? If so, you can check out the quality of your stone using the HCA. I''m not an expert, but I don''t think it''s the best.

As for the price, it looks like you could get a slightly better cut for around $4300-4600. So, look at settings similar to yours and see what they cost. My guess is you''ve paid too much for a not so great stone. BUT, I don''t know much about round stones, so hopefully someone else will chime in!

Not loving the depth. Looks too deep to me.

You've mentioned you bought it recently, so it's a done deal. Unless there is some form of recourse (return/refund) option, there doesn't seem much to be gained in worrying about it now.

My feedback is to enjoy it and all the joy that surrounds it.

the stone is too deep @ 64.1%.a well cut 1.15ct stone would be more like 6.80-6.85 mm. in diameter. sorry but, you want to hear the truth.

What is their refund policy??

Is there a place to find this sort of information like a 1.2 should be xxmm - xxmm ?

thanks

since you asked for truthfulness...

i think they saw you coming. the stone and setting together for $6500 sound like a reasonable price BUT that stone you have in that setting is not going to be a good one AT ALL.

the table at 61% and the depth at 64% is a classic steep-deep combo, you are losing tons of weight in that 64% depth. as someone else already noted, a 1.15c should not be 6.60mm, it should actually be more like 6.75-6.80mm. so basically this diamond looks more like a 1.08c stone than a well-cut 1.15c.

what does this mean? that chances are this stone does not look as good as it could if it were well-cut. when you look down into the stone do you see alot of black or dark spots rather than bright sparkle? that would be cut.

it's hard to shop in stores with 'jewelry lighting' as every stone looks good under that, but get it out into real life and you will see all the places it does not look good. i used to have a non-well-cut stone and now that i have a well-cut stone, the differences are like night and day.

i don't know what your priorities are...if you wanted just to get a 1c+ rock and setting for$6500, if so, sounds like you did it...but if you really want to get the best diamond for your buck, return the ring and stone and start educating yourself on what makes a good diamond.

good luck!

Do a search on "Spread Index" and check out that thread.
