Hey so this is pretty much the setting we want for the ring... why are there two rings in the picture you ask? Well it''s kinda a combo of the two that we want! Pretty much the one on the right is perfect (with the white gold swirls, and the channel of diamonds underneath), except for two small things:

1) the swirly white gold bits are too high, we want them as close to just being right on top of the band as possible - and I think this means you have to have claws on the diamond (is this correct?), but that''s okay because she said she wants to see the shape of the diamond (down to the tip at the bottom)...

2) secondly the swirl design on the left is a little more like what we want, in the sense that it comes up out of the band, instead of coming out the side - as we want the wedding band to be able to be a perfect circle to sit flush up against the engagement ring...

So a couple of quick questions...

* Do you like it?

* Will it need claws if the diamond sticks out? Or is there another way of securing it?

* Lastly, any recommendations of where to get something like this made in Australia? (or where one like I have described is already made?)

Thanks in advance,
Zac

I like swirly, but I like something simpler, more wave than swirl, like ring 2 without the yellow gold/diamond part. Have you seen Claude Thibadeau?

It looks like the first one has claws and the second one is a bezel. You can have either.

Hey, checked out Claude Thibadeau - it isn''t really the style we are going for, although it''s cool how you can see down to the bottom of the diamond. But thanks for replying! What do other people think?

It''s quite likely that the reason the swirls come up the sides is because if they came from the band, you would see little, if any of the diamond band underneath. If doing a custom job the bench person may be able to modify the ring so that the swirls come out less far from the band, but it seems that they do need to come out the side unless you don''t want to see the diamond band underneath it.

Wow you''re right FireGoddess... wouldn''t want to hide the band of diamonds... maybe coming out the side like that is fine... would look fine still, just hope a wedding band can sit up against it nice and perfect.

Thanks for those links JulieN, they are really beautiful, but not *quite* what she wants I don''t think. I really really like the custom one (the one with the pictures posted on the forum), but I think closer to the right one in the original pic I posted will be the way we will go.

And mrssalvo - I have passed all this on to Garry, and am talking with him about getting the setting made just the way I like it.

This is pretty much how I want it to look from side on... can anyone see any problems with this?

I think what you want is to have prongs coming out of the yellow gold part, and the white gold is like a swirly cathedral, BUT, you also need to send the picture on the right to get the idea.
