Hi everyone, I''m new to the site; I''ve been checking out the posts and lovely pictures here for the last couple days. My boyfriend of 7 years proposed (finally). He chose a 1.00-1.10 SI round in a plain wg band, and asked me to choose the setting. I''d appreciate your honest opinions on what you think about this setting: there are 4 photos. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Congratulations. This setting is very pretty. Do you know the size, color, clarity of the side stones? Also, what is the color of your center stone?

looks like a beautiful setting.

I guess the things I would think about are what is your lifestyle like, is it a practical setting for you? Are the little mallee stones securely placed in, what is the workmanship like, do they replace lost mallee, etc,

But a very pretty setting
enjoy the looking

The info I have on the setting is:

Color: F
Total carat weight: 0.31
Clarity: VS1-VS2

The solitaire color is G (do you think it'll look stupid on this setting because of the color difference)? Forgive me, I don't know much about jewelry.

(oh, there are only 3 photos, guess I accidentally hit the wrong key)

Very nice stones in the setting. Your center stone will look beautiful in this.

Thanks for giving me something to think about. I never thought about having to worry about the little stones falling out (don''t want to find out the hard way); or it being busy (don''t want to take attention from the solitaire). I may just stick with the plain band until I find a setting I really love...any suggestions would be welcome too.

A customed designed e-ring and wedding band set is always another option. Take pieces of what you like and don''t like from pictures and design your own one of a kind set!

Wow Chanpear! what a setting!

It looks a lot like two chinese dragons (in profile the heads are made of the two closest set sidestones, with the third stone in the dragon''s claws).

Please everyone else correct me if I''m wrong, but I don''t see much melee in this setting.

I note that there are 3 relatively largeish side stones on each side, which seem to be prong set, but the rest of the ring seems to be a mass of glimmering textured metalwork. Maybe I''m wrong, but I just can''t see any melee (unless the side stones count)

A very unique setting! where is it from? (I would get it in a heartbeat)

best,
HD

Very unique and intricate setting. how is your lifestyle, are you very active? with your hands? But pretty nonetheless. Sometimes depending on how intricate and how large the sidestones are, it detracts from the center jmho though. But if you love it, that is all that matters most. Congrats by the way!

I think it is a beautiful setting. Is there a custom wedding band that goes with it? It may be difficult to find one that matches or sits flush with it.

Hi HD! Interesting opinion. I never looked at it that way. It's from a jewelry store here in Chicago (mydiamondzone) the pictures are from their webpage on ebay. I was a little reluctant to buy jewelry online but fortunately, I live in the same city and was told to come in to see it in person, while still getting the online price. I spoke with them -they were very accomodating and even said that if I don't think the diamond looks right with the setting, they will let me know. As far as using my hands,I will be very careful when washing dishes if I choose this one. The price is unbeatable, and setting the diamond is included, but I will keep an open mind. (Theres no custom band that comes with it). The store does custom make jewelry, so I may ask)

HD, just wondering if I could get you opinion on something else? If you had this setting, what kind of band would you choose?

Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to give me your advice and different opinions. Awesome site, and very nice people.

Gorgeous ring, but if it were mine, I would not put a band with it. I would wear it as a stand-alone ring. It will look beautiful set with a 1 ct. round!

Hi again Chanpear

The wedding band question is a tricky one....

If you wanted a wedding band, I''d probably get something custom made (in the same metal as the ering) that would sit flush with the bottom smooth part of the band, and then curve around the outline of the upper decorative part of the band, but not actualy touch it, and I''d probably get it welded together with the ering at the bottom (after the wedding) so that it stays in place and doesn''t move and rub the ring. Does that make sense?

pictures to show you what I mean:
1)It would be simple and plain (thinner than in this picture)
2)It would follow the outline of the curve of your ring.
3)I would sit flush with the lower part of the band, but not touch the upper ornate part
4)Something like this overall effect but less bold and ornate - just a whisper of wedding band.

My biggest concern with a wedding band would be it rubbing off all that delicate metal detail work off of one side of the ering.
my second biggest concern would be to make it simple enough that it doesn''t detract from the main design of the engagement ring

I''m no expert or jeweler, so be sure to get a second opinion!

cheers, HD

HD, you're awesome! That's a great idea. I know exactly what you're saying...simple, like maybe the same material as the "glimmering textured work" as you called it. I'll ask them about making the curve big enough so it won't rub together, like it the pictures above, and will probably show these pictures as examples. Thanks again! I believe that I will be sticking with this setting.

Congratulations to you both!

This is a beautiful setting however you need to consider what type of wedding band will match. Are you going to make a custom band that matches with this setting? The reason I mention this is because the original piece I used to propose with is somewhat an antique design so so far I have not seen a band to match. And to make one to match would over power the whole engagement ring.

Just sharing the slight dilemma we had with you.

I think this is a Stunning setting! I agree with the other ladies that it seems almost too gorgeous to have a companion detracting from this ring. Hopefully they can make something custom for you so that this ring can sparkle on its own and so you can still see all sides of it. Congrats on your engagement, ultimately only you will know what is right for you. I do think its absolutely beautiful.
