Someone is selling a sapphire and diamond in platinum ring on Facebook Marketplace. They have an NAGL report and the asking price is $650. Is this ring worth that?
It looks like the lab at least tested it for SW and LW UV. Assuming heat treatment only, no BE-diffusion (which the lab wouldn't detect without LIBS, requiring very expensive equipment), the sapphire is worth $150-$300 depending on facet wear and evenness of color, which you can't tell from the poor quality lighting pictures. The color measured is actually considered trade ideal. That leaves $350-$500 for the platinum with the diamonds. It would be interesting to know the stats on the diamonds, but I consider this ring a fair deal. If it's in your size, go for it. Resizing it costs extra money; ask a local jeweler.
It’s not a “bargain” price but you wouldn’t be able to have that ring made for $650.
The sapphire is worth around $200, maybe a little more, $100 for the 2 diamonds, platinium mount around $400 + plus setting = $800 / $900.
So if the ring is your size, that’s better as a resize up can be $50 plus and often times with platinium you can get a visible “seam”.
I would offer $600.
