Ladies,

I need your opinions please. I am a huge fan of J.crew and shop there often for work and play clothes. I am quite petite and have no problems with their sizes. (5''2, 100lbs)

http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WeddingParties/womens/forthebride/PRDOVR~80099/80099.jsp

I came across this dress last year and they just put it back online.
My style can be pretty ecletic, I wear everythng from Tracy Reese, Philip Lim to The Gap and Urban Outfitters. I have been eyeing dresses by Amsale and Vera Wang lately, but unfortunately they are out of my price range. I would like to keep the dress budget at $2000.
Wedding is next September, church ceremony and hotel reception.

Questions?
1. What do you think of the dress? Is it too plain?
2. Can a petite figure pull this dress off?

Thanks!
-Samantha

Samatha,
I personally don''t care much for the dress for a church wedding. But, it''s all about what makes YOU feel good. I recommond trying on a bunch of dress styles at a bridal shop (if you haven''t already) and see what style you like. I don''t know if you can order the dress and try it on, and if you don''t like it return it? I think I would want something a little more formal for a church wedding, but that''s just me. If it makes YOU happy, thats all that matters! Go with your gut! Most women will tell you the just KNOW it''s THE DRESS! Does it make your heart go pitter patter? If it doesn''t...I''d keep looking! If it does, well ORDER IT! Your wedding is a about a year away, so you have plenty of time to try on other dresses or order this one!
Good luck!
Stephanie

I like it. Its simple and classic. If you want a more modest look for church, you can always add a bolero.

It looks like the Amsale dress in 27 dresses. Very nice :)

I think the dress is lovely but as pp said not for a church wedding and a hotel reception.
I''m about your height and weight and I know that dress would swallow me up.

I think it''s a really cute dress, but I''m not sure about it for a couple of reasons.

1. I think you could get more for your money (or pay less for the exact same dress).

2. The cut of the dress seems pretty casual and boobalicious for a church wedding/ hotel reception combo, even if it is really nice silk.

3. The model is probably super tall, and she looks like the dress is too big for her, so I''m not sure how it would look on your petite figure.

I think it has potential to be a beautiful dress, but it''s the type of dress that you''d definitely have to try on in person. I think the back is really pretty. If you try it on and love it, then it''s the dress for you!

I agree with everything Guilty Pleasure said. But if you keep coming back to it, you should probably try to find something similar to try on so that you can see for yourself (I know if I love something but KNOW it won''t work for me, the only way to get over it is to try it on and see that it''s better in my mind than on me).

mintve, i knew there was a reason why i was drawn to this dress, i LOVE amsale.

i agree that the dress is too bare for the church, i guess it back to searching.

also wanted to add that i am asian and this will not be my only dress throughout the day. I have not decided yet but there might be a cocktail dress and also a traditional dress change.

Personally, I would have to see this dress on you. Because you are so petite, I am afraid that the band under the chest is going to significanty shorten your torso and the dress will be wearing you. However, one never knows until you actually try it on, so I would do that and then take pictures so we can see how it looks.

Good luck in your search. You have a great budget that can get you a lot of great looking gowns.

I absolutely love that dress, but as others have said, it might be a bit too revealing for a church wedding. Also, I would have to see it on you before saying whether it would suit a petite frame-it might swallow you up too much.

i completely agree with what everyone else has said; although lovely, that dress might not work in a church and might be too much for your petite frame. If budget''s an issue, try looking at sites with designer samples for sale. I just bought a vera wang from one - it came in at under $2k - and you can often find a huge range of top names for a fraction of original price.

www.oncewed.com (mix of samples and preowned, private sellers)

www.preownedweddingdresses.com (private sellers)

it might be worth narrowing down the style / silhouette / fabric / embellishments you like by trying on in-store and seeing what they have online that best matches your options. the non-private seller sites often have fair return policies too.
