Hi everyone,

I've been spending the last few weeks looking for an engagement ring for my girlfriend and I think that I found the diamond. What do you guys think of this:

1.59 RB, G, VS2, GIA Ex/Ex/Ex, no fluorescence, H&A
7.48 - 7.53 x 4.62 mm
medium to slightly thick (faceted)
some very small inclusions on the edge of the table according to GIA cert, though I can't see them under 10x
61.6% depth, 56% table, 34.5° crown angle, 40.8° pavilion angle
HCA is 1.3

I was quoted $15500 + tax. Is that a good value for this diamond? Let me know what other info is needed. I have a copy of the cert.

The other advice that I would like is well, is this too big of a diamond for my GF who is a 3.25 ring size? I originally was going to go with a 1 carat, but bump it to 1.3 carat, and now I see this beautiful 1.59. I know that size matter, but is there such a thing as too big?

Right now for the ring itself I'm going to get it custom made since I didn't find anything that is exactly what I like. It kinda look like this, except it's going to be 1 mm width with micro pave setting.

Sounds lovely!!!

Too big? Not in my book!

I think it would be stunning on her size finger, personally. You''d be amazed how fast you get used to the diamond size, and before you know it the darn things start shrinking before your very eyes.

I think the price seems fair. I found a 1.58ct G SI1 for $13,455...

She''s going to be blown away. :)

Ditto - it sounds great, the proportions are excellent, should be a beauty!

That's incredibly thin, too thin imo. I don't recall ever seeing a band made that thin by anyone around here, and many want as thin as they can get/the jeweler will make. (not sure it's even possible) That's a good size stone, you want the setting to be sturdy and secure. I would really recommend going 2mm at least. That is not that wide, at all.

And your stone sounds just lovely! Good price as well. It will be a smashing size on her!

I agree with ellen...1mm band width is too thin. Micropave stones (half pointers) are 1mm in diameter. You need something to hold those in. I dont know if that thin is possible (like 2-3 business cards width). most jewelers hate going under 2mm in band width but if you are aiming for delicate and dont want to sacrifice durability (1mm will most definitely bend) I would go no less than 1.8mm

i think the smallest I read any PSer had was 1.5mm which is too thin in my opinion.

great ring

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your feedback. I was really worry about the width of the ring being too thin, but the jeweler said that he can do it. I''ll call him back and see if he can up the width to 1.5 or 2 mm.

I''m glad you guys all like the diamond. I was really worried about how big it would look since the width of her finger is only 15 mm and the diamond diameter is 7.5 mm.

Just curious, did you ask for that width, or is that what he recommended?

And when you call back, I wouldn''t ask him if he can do it, I would tell him that''s what you want.

Also, I agree with stone seeker, I wouldn''t go below 1.8. Rings take a beating, they have to be built to withstand that.

I originally was going to go with a 3 mm band, but he showed me a Scott Kay band that was 1 mm and it looks really nice. I asked if he could make the ring with the style that I liked in 1 mm and he said that he could do it.

Here''s a picture of what the setting looks like.
