Hello everyone,

I live in Vancouver Canada and i am planning to propose in about 3 weeks. I am having a custom ring made and I am very anxious about selecting a diamond. After seeing various diamonds i am about to go with this one:

cut: ideal
polish: ideal
symmetry: ideal
color : G (1.5)
clarity: SI1
carat: 1.06

The diamond seems relatively clean under magnification, especially after viewing several SI2 diamonds. It looks eye clean to me and under magnification there only seems to be a small hazy spot in the middle. My question is: is G color considered not good? I had a really hard time distinguishing between F and a G diamonds of the same size and I even had to look hard to distinguish between the E and the G. Once mounted will it look colourless?

The jeweller is charging me $9500 cdn for the diamond. After looking at various websites, such as spence etc etc this does seem like a fair price. What do you think?

hey darius! welcome to ps

congratulations on your upcoming engagement! there is not enough information on your stone to say anything about it at all, but if you can get more information on the dimensions, we would be glad to help.
as far as a ''g'' color diamond goes, i find that color is very hard to detect in a well cut stone.

Thanks for your response, Belle. I don''t have the dimensions written down but I do recall the cert listing the cut as AGS IDEAL 0 (as well as the symmetry and polish). Does that mean that the dimensions are within a range that make the cut a very high quality (ideal in this case?)

As for the color: I think that the G looked great, and when the F was placed beside it I really could not justify spending all the extra $$$ for color difference that I could barely notice with unmounted stones seen under specific lighting conditions!

your welcome darius.
if this stone was graded ideal by ags, i am most inclined to believe it is well cut. i think an ags g/si is a great deal. as a matter of fact, it is my preferred color/clarity combo. i''m sure it''s a beauty! best of luck on your upcoming proposal!

Thanks again, belle. Do you say it is your preferred color/clarity combo because visibly it can compare to a higher quality diamond to the naked eye? For me the choice came down to this: the diamond is not for investment purposes and it would be really hard to tell the difference between this diamond and a diamond that would cost literally thousands more for virtually invisible qualities. I have read very positive things about an AGS ideal 0 cut and this may be the most important attribute of my selection.
