I found this diamond for an engagement ring and I absolutely love it, and I wanted to know what people thought of it.

Here are the specs from the GIA cert (and price) so please let me know what you think.

- Shape and cutting: Round Brilliant
- Measurements: 8.70-8.79 x 5.42 mm
- Carat Weight: 2.52
- Color Grade: D
- Clarity Grade: VS2
- Cut Grade: Excellent
- Polish: Very Good
- Symmetry: Very Good
- Fluorescence: Faint
- Depth: 62%
- Table: 57%
- Crown Angle: 35.0 degrees
- Also, the girdle is "medium, slightly thick (faceted)."
- Price $47,000

There are no visible defects with the naked eye and only 2 visible tiny inclusions with a loupe, one of which can be hidden under a prong. The diamond is literally stunning in daylight!

I don't have any pictures of it but I can take some if someone really wants to see it. It's not mounted of course.

Thanks!

Do you have the depth %, table %, crown angle and pavillion angle from the cert? That would help determine how well cut it is by comparing it to AGS ideal standards as well as using the Holloway Cut Advisor (located under Tools at the top of the page.) You can check the price against similar diamonds by using the Price Comparison link under Prices at the top of the page.

Well we need the following info from the cert? Oh I see 2of2 beat me to it. hehee I am glad you saw the stone in person but come back w/those things and we can help

I would love to see pictures. It sounds amazing!! Have you already picked out the setting??

HI:

Wow. Sounds like you''ve seen this stone and really love it! That is great, notwithstanding a D colored, eyeclean VS2, 2.52 is nothing to shake a stick at!!

I did a quick search on the database on PS and there were very few stones with your GIA color/size/clarity parameters listed, 3 or 4 I think. Around the 36K region.

You have an extraordinary budget. Would you mind sharing what are the most important qualities you want or value in a diamond?

cheers--Sharon

The cut advisor rates it at "2.4 -- very good." If you have seen it in person and it blows you away, that is the most important thing.

It is hard to find other diamonds in that size for price comparison purposes. Here is a 2.51ct G VS2 AGS0 ideal cut round for $40,351.11 (bank wire price: $38,986.58):

It has a better cut, but is 3 color grades lower, for about $7,000 less. G is a great color, but I do love the icy white of a D. If this stone speaks to you and you can afford it, go for it.

I recently bought a diamond with the help of the kind members of Pricescope. My budget was $40K. I was able to get a larger stone with a better cut than the one you love. Please be patient and take the wonderful advice of those on the board (Skippy et al). You will wind u with something that is better quality than your stone and the price will be better too, which will leave you lots of $$ for a gorgeous setting. Happy Shopping!! You came to the right place!
