Hello
I've been looking at cushion cut diamonds - my boyfriend isn't looking to buy for awhile (still saving up) but I came across this diamond and was wondering what you all thought about it?

Would it give off more of a crushed ice appearance or chunky faceted look? I'm hoping for the chunky look (I'm obsessed with AVCs). Hard for me to tell when its not next to a different diamond with either of these appearances.

Any opinions would be great. Thanks!

That looks more crushed ice to me. I have an AVC and the faceting in it is totally different than this JA.

It's a modern cushion and not a good one.

Alrighty thanks! Just making sure

Call Perry Chen at Leon Mege and tell him you want an antique cushion. That's your best bet.

In the 5-7k price range this http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1262073.asp is the closest you will get to a decent antique cushion at JA. The only others are this unattractive specimen http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/D-VS1-Very-Good-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1422776.asp and this odd duck: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1485876.asp So, overall, while there has been the occasional chunky cushion find at JA, at the moment and in the 5-7k price unless you want to check out that first E SI I posted (in which case get an ASET from them), they are a bust in the 5-7 range.

Okay thanks so much; I can definitely see the difference with that first diamond you posted! I love the chunky faceted look. Thanks for the advice; I'll definitely look into contacting Perry Chen!

Also, Engagement Rings Direct, and of course, Good Old Gold, have well cut chunky faceted cushions. Those and Perry would be my only contacts for antique style cushions. I'd wait until he is ready to buy to contact them, though. What they have now won't necessarily be there when you're ready.

Yep, we'll wait! I'm just so excited haha! I didn't know to focus on those few people but that definitely helps! I feel like there's just soo much out there and it's hard narrowing it down. So that will help :]

I agree with the others. I would hate to see you fall in love with a stone now and it not be available later. That said, I think your doing to right thing by beginning your research now. It will make shopping much less stressful and overwhelming later.

I've been waiting to post this 2.03 cushion brilliant...ideal cut...but it's a K and it looks marvelous and is HUGE!...for $7,300
Looks pretty clean for an SI2 as well. Might be worth busting your budget a bit.

Good luck! The other 1.66 K IF is either sold or on hold by someone. ( http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/K-IF-Ideal-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1471593.asp) Seems like all the well cut cushions are K color. But if you are looking for antique cut on a budget an AGS K could be really nice.

That K IF is one of my favorite cushions. I hope whoever is considering it posts it on here when they buy it.

The K SI AGS is interesting. I think it shows a bowtie but I don't know it might not be a deal breaker in this stone if it blends well (gemologist would have to say). The other JA stones I posted show bowties too. It is a great size for the budget and I personally prefer warmth in my big facet cuts.

The K SI2 almost looks like it has color zoning in it? May just be a weird picture but can't help but wonder if that's why it's so cheap?!

I was wondering about why the color shows but after looking at I's and J's that also show color on JA's site don't know if it is significant or not. I know that AGS grades pretty strictly on color. The K below is also a 2c stone and is $7,900 with a higher clarity.

Here are some examples of color in some I's and J's on JA:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VVS1-Ideal-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1494702.asp I shows color

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/K-VS1-Very-Good-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1384786.asp K doesn’t show color $7,900 k

I’s and J’s that show color

Oh my gosh, a two carat would be insane (as in good) lol. I definitely want a lot of finger coverage. However, I am worried about going low-ish in color because I want to get the HW (inspired) halo. I don't want there to be a [big] noticable difference in color from the center stone and all the small stones around it.

This is so tough! lol My boyfriend wants to know why we can't just walk into Jareds and leave with a ring all put together.
