Hi all,

I''m about to take the plunge and buy an engagement ring on Blue Nile. My budget is 6k for the setting and diamond. The diamond I scoped out costs about 4k (details below). I wanted to get it set on this ring http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-engagement-ring-platinum_9917. The total cost with matching wedding band would be around 6k. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just got a ring the other day. I used advice from this guy's site. I haven't received my ring yet, but I feel confident about it. I also got it from BN - sight unseen.

My initial advice is to go down on the color scale which allows you to get a bigger stone for your budget....a platinum setting probably doesn't require a D colored diamond. I ended up with H, which is also the color grade of the diamonds on the cirque setting from BN. I also happened to find an SI1 clarity diamond with the 1-2 inclusions in the girdle and no additional comments, whereas some VS2 & VS1 grades had their inclusions in the table, not to mention the comment "clouds not shown" in their GIA reports.

The above site helped alot - before I read it I was considering a diamond of higher color and clarity, but instead I went with a better cut (BN signature ideal). I'm no expert though - but if you want some help, Ira who runs the above site is glad to help.

we will need more information about the cut of the stone. Can you post the stone''s link or the report number?

Hi Scout,

We need the following info please, if you could post the link or the following info separately please

crown and pavilion angles
star and lower girdle facet percentages

Check also the strong fluorescence isn''t making the diamond look cloudy in some lights, ask BN to check.

Here is the link to the GIA cert. http://img.bluenile.com/is/image/certs/?src={/418/GIA1102965633_zoom.jpeg}&fmt=pdf

Crown: 34.0
Pavilion: 41.0

My girlfriend is 5'4 so her fingers are not that big. I think her ring size is 5.5 so big stones wont look nice on her. She tried on a .8 carat at a store and it looked like the right size. I suppose a little bigger wont hurt. My priority is to get that nice bright shimmer without any visible flaws. I'm still learning so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback!

Looks promising from the numbers. Good luck.

Thanks for that scout, without images we can say the diamond has potential.
