I ran across a Cartier ring 1895 w/side stones and the following specs. It is listed for about $10K. Is that a good deal? I would love a Cartier! :) Thanks for any advice!

Hello - here https://www.pricescope.com/cutadviser.asp is how the stone did on the cut advisor tool, it looks to be quite good.
Does the 10k include the setting? and in what metal, what carat side stones etc?

10K for a 1ct Cartier seems fair... I''m sure they only use lovely stones

If you love the style and the price is acceptable to you, then get it. Cartier wouldn''t set an inferior stone, so no worries there. The only reason I can see to not get it would be if you didn''t care much for the style but just want a Cartier piece. I''ve seen some Cartier on ebay in my price range (when looking for a new ring), but I didn''t like the actual style of the pieces that were being offered!

This is a pre-owned ring. So I wonder if the price is ok for that? It is platinum with .70 carats of side diamonds. I do like the style.

But being previously used, this brings up a few other questions.

1) Are there any drawbacks to purchasing a pre-owned ring?

2) It needs resizing, should I do it at the jewelry store that is selling it? They offer free resizing. Or should I send it directly to Cartier at an additional cost? It has the Cartier inscription on the bottom of the band and I wouldn''t want that altered.

3) If I did send it to Cartier, can they authenticate it? Or does that even matter?

Thanks again!!!!

Sounds like an awfully good deal. Here''s one from Signed Pieces who have authentic quality pieces and it''s about $14k for a 1.01 G VS1 Cartier 1895 pave. Linky

Who is selling it? Can you get it authenticated prior to finalising payment? I would only get it resized by Cartier and I would definitely want it authenticated if I were paying for the Cartier name.

Thanks for the input. This one seems nicer than the one on Signed Pieces.

Does anyone know if Cartier diamond rings come with a cert of authenticy or just a GIA report? This ring comes with the box and the GIA.

My main concern now would be if there are any hidden drawbacks to purchasing pre-owned.

Thanks!

Only if its damaged in any way, or its not what they say it is.
The price does seem very fair - I would make the sale final upon independent appraisal and verification. I think it does matter, as you may be paying a premium for the name?

under the resources tab there is a search tool for recommended appraisers.

From what I have heard, Cartier is not very "kind" to 2nd hand owners (just what I have been told). They do give paperwork and a GIA cert with the original purchase....and I do not think you can get a copy if you are not the original owner (of the Cartier paperwork). However, I would call to double-check.

Also, I would have Cartier do any re-sizing, which might be costly.

The ring is supposed to be in excellent condition. Does anyone know how much something like this would be new? I will also post a pic of the ring itself. Thanks! :)

I would just ring Cartier and do some price research - that way you can also find out about re sizing costs and ppwk..
Although I''ve never inter acted with them so unsure how they treat second-hand owners.

Perhaps just pretend you are pricing a new ring!

I''m worried now about the service at Cartier for "2nd hand" buyers. Has anyone had any negative experience through Cartier for any of their services? Thanks!

It''s a high end European jewelery and watch house. Expect service to be costly and take some time, and hopefully be done well.

A fine swiss watch can take 4-6 months to come back from service...

I don''t have any experience with Cartier diamond rings, but I have always received helpful and gracious service from Cartier on their watches, so it would probably extend to their jewelry as well. As is to be expected, their services can be expensive. However, I recently took one of my watches to the Cartier service center in NYC because I had accidentally dropped it and one of the links was bent -- they fixed it for me while I waited, no charge.

Hope this helps!

^ that's good service. Taking it to an authorized Cartier dealer, with a Cartier service center or store being the best choice, will likely result in the fastest service.

I know when we've sent things away to Cartier to be repaired (a cigar Lighter for example), it has taken a *long* time.

you might be paying just the name but cartier is well known company
