it is very sparkley and I like the shape- i have to tell you - there''s not alot of cushions in this price range out there - most of them are 1.5 cts ond then jump up to two carats-

i am a little concerned on the depth

please advise all! thanks for your help!

Winnie,

Giving someone advise is easy when they''ve already done all the hard work!

The diamond looks great. You''ve done all your research (both online and in person) and actually seen the diamond. That is far more important than what I (or we) can tell you from just the numbers.

Congrats!

thanks for the email back- just one question b/c you are an expert- does this seem a little deep to you??

these cushions are like finding a needle in a haystack !

winnie,

If I was looking at just the depth percentage on a piece of paper I would think yes - it is on the heavier end.

Since, however the stone is a fancy shape, I''m not sure that number is as heavy as some people think. Wasn''t Dave Atlas saying something about how a better way of considering depth would be to divide the depth in mm by (length + width/2)? If so then some of these more rectangular diamonds would result in depth percentages that were more "tolerable" to the paper crowd. Also, hasn''t Paul said that the new princess cuts, although "deep" on paper actually have spreads comparable to current princesses with lower numbers?

Either way I think the fact you''ve seen the stone trumps just about everything else...

Hi Winnie

Congratulations on finding a cushion you like! I recently bought a cushion and love it! I think the most important factor in choosing a cushion - or for that matter any diamond - is the appearance. If you like how she performs in front of your eyes, and you decide she has a good cut by using some of the PS tools, even better!

Like I said I bought a tone recently from an online vendor. The first cushion I bought was from Whiteflash, but I did not like the appearance of the stone and returned it to them. Whiteflkash was wonderful about it and I had no problem returning it. The second cushion was from Mark at www.engagementringsdirect.com in NYC. I immediately liked it and bought it! Both these companies were great and I can recommend working with them. Here is the links to my cushion search: The one I bought The one I returned

Here is my opinion about the numbers you have posted - remember I am not an expert - there are many more PS''ers that know a lot more than I do - and I have not seen your stone in person:

1) The deeper the depth, the smaller the spread may be. This may cause that the diamond looks smaller than a stone of the same carat weight. Compare it with this cushion 1.72ct cushion, where the spread is 7.43 x6.60 x 4.18 ( the pricescope price on this stone is $9825 based on a PS database search. The cushion I bought is a 1.55ct and has a spread of 7.75x6.53x4.19.
2) A very thin to very thick girdle will bother me personally because it may be wavy.
3) There are a lot of people on PS that loves a SI2 stone, and if you have seen it and is satisfied with it - great, but it will bother me mainly because with a RB diamond you can hide inclusions better than with a fancy cut.

Anyhow, search the archives on PS and you will get a good idea of what is good numbers for a cushion and which vendors are good to work with. You can do a search of the PS database as well and look for something that will be comparable to your cushion. Remember also that sometimes it may be useful to contact a vendor you like, because they may have something in stock close to your budget that may not be listed on the virtual database. Most important though is that you like it!

Good luck!

thanks so much for all of help...I am double checking everything and you have been so helpful- i am just exhausted looking- with everystone- i''m trading one thing for another- there''s nothing perfect unless it''s, well, a perfect stone- going to look at this one one more time and then i think i am going to pull the trigger- it''s hard to find a longer cushion- if I wanted more of a square - there''s more out there- will keep ya posted- again, thanks for all of your words of wisdom

Hi Winnie!

Great to know that there''s another cushion hunter out there in the same shoes as myself. I''ve been very lucky and found a few stones that meet my criteria. I''ve pretty much decided on THE ONE. Don''t have the specs here with me, but I do recall that it is also very deep, I was concerned in the beginning, but after speaking to many venders, I get the feeling that with fancy cuts, like the cushion, we really shouldn''t be too concerned about sticking to the 60-65 rule. My cushion is a longer cushion (ratio 1.19, and I love it!) and I notice that the depth was calculated based on the shorter measurement, which resulted in it being very "heavy", however, if I took the average of the two side measurements and figured out the depth, it is really not heavy at all!

Now about the vender, we did go to many venders just to look at stones to see what is available in the market, and you''re right, a nice cushion is really not easy to come by. I should tell you that I didn''t have luck finding anything with some of the more popular vendors on PS, so I decided to check with an online jewelry dealer that I have made several purchases from. I was skeptical at first whether they would be able to help me out or not, since they do not specialize in diamonds, but I am so glad that I asked!! They found me a few stones, gave me the specs, and when I narrowed down to two, they made arrangements for me to look at them. I was so impressed with their speedy service and their resourcefulness... and what a DEAL they found me!! Anyways, I think I''ve blabbed on enough, if you want I can put you in touch with these wondeful people, they''re great!

Good luck with your search!
