This is BBB''s absolutely amazing ring. Stunning. What do you think is the smallest size center that can pull of a split? The band seems pretty narrow and delicate.

Also, what do you think about modifying it for an EC. I know that there is a lot of negative opinions for pairing sleek EC''s with pave -- the thinking is that the bling detracts from the EC, but ...

I think that it looks stunning with a cushion!!

In terms of minimum size, how wide is the split shank? Because I would definitely try to overlap that some. So if the split shank widest point at the top near the stone is something like 7mm or 8mm, then I would try to get a 9mm stone or similar. I have found that when you are talking settings, if you don''t get something that overlaps the setting, it tends to make the stone look smaller. Then again, you could try to get something that aligns exactly with the split shank on purpose to have more of a ''compact'' look, but I wouldn''t go smaller than the split shank mm. Hope that makes sense!!

These don't seem all that huge. Bill Pearlman posts here, maybe you could PM him and ask what weight/ size those diamonds are.

The rings look close to Mara's second option (stone matching the span of the split).

OH how I love that Daniel K split crown!!!! (I prefer with the cushion)

I tried on one that I think was very very close to the same carat size as that one (the cushion) which was 1.2 and looked perfect. A bit of overhang on the top and bottom, but I think it would have looked just as good with a bit less. But I don''t think you could go below just under a carat.

Sigh...that''s the ring that made me fall in love with both cushions & pave in the first place...

BBB''s (the first one i posted) is different from Daniel K because the Daniel K has a larger split and then the two bands form into one band that is made up of larger stones.

I personally favor BBB''s ring that seems to have a more subtle split and then is made up of two bands the entire way with what i think is micro pave.

any more thoughts on an EC w/pave?

i love the BBB: gorgous with lots of gem power, but compact. and i agree with Mara re stone and split shank. i think it would be a very beautiful e-ring!

I am not sure on the minimum size diamond to use (maybe 1 ct) BUT I did want to comment on the myth that step cuts and pave do not look good together. I have heard this quite a number of times here and of an owner of an EC with pave I disagree. I love the contrast. I love that my EC catches the light differently than my RB and Princess melees. That way something is always sparkling. I think there are no rules in jewelry. Choose a setting and a stone you love. They are diamonds! Of course they will look great together!

This is close, I would think. This is from the Picture Gallery here - a ring with 1.5 carat cushion.

I am not sure the small variation in the way the snak is split makes much of the difference to me, from this point of view.

The cushion is 7.8mm x 7.0mm and the asscher is 7mm Ex Ex cut grades. Different cut grades may produce different weights so it''s better to go with actual sizes for the center diamond. Using well propotioned stones I wouldn''t use less than a 6.3mm diamond.

I love that daniel K split shank with the cushion, it's in the running for my own upgrade.
