Hi, I''m looking to purchase a 2-2.3 carat round diamond. My budget is $15,000 max for the entire ring so I thought the best deal would be online. I found some great deals I think at Solomon Brothers. I''m looking to put it into a halo setting. Tell me what you think- what do you think about it being EGL certified? Thanks for the post!!

Not sure about the EGL, usually they are discounted because they can be looser in color and clarity grades.

The GIA stone, by the numbers, could be good, but it has comment that clarity is based on cloud not shown. Might affect the light return of the stone. Best to get that independently appraised, or if you trust the Novori, their opinion on the cloud if it will affect light return.

Thanks for the post. Do you think the EGL H/VS2 will have any visible eye inclusions or yellow color?

Could be, no way to tell, some are graded well some not, so if you buy them you are playing a lottery in my opinion. Get it independently appraised if you are interested to know what you are really getting.

I cannot guess how they perform optically, the minimum information I need in addition to what you listed are the crown and pavilion angle.

Yeah you''re right- risky. my gf and I went to the NYC diamond district and we found a ring at ben moses that was 2 carat. she loved it but of course she wants the biggest stone money can buy. lol. does it look small on her hand, she has a 5 size finger.

No it don't. :P That's huge with the halo and big stone. You are lucky if you get above 50% width of the finger covered, this ring covers more than 50%, probably in the region of 75%.

The ring for my fiancee only covers 42%.

GIA " clouds not shown" in the comments section of the report is rarely an issue, however in this case it says " clarity grade is based on clouds which are not shown" which might be as clouds are the grade setters. You would need an expert to check this diamond carefully to make sure the grade setting clouds are not impacting brilliance. Also this diamond has borderline steep deep crown and pavilion angles, you would need to check carefully that the diamond didn't show leakage, an Idealscope image would be helpful or look closely for dark areas or a dark ring around the table of the diamond.

Ariana can you post all the info for each diamond to include the crown and pavilion angles please so that myself and other interested posters can take a look please and help you?

Sure...
(2.36 carat EGL) has:
Crown: 14
Pav: 43
Girdle: medium

2.63 carat EGl has:
Crown: 15
Pav: 42
Girdle: Thin

2.32 carat GIA (novori) has:
Crown: 16
Pav: 43
Girdle: thin-medium
(i think, it was a picture, i had to guess)

The first one is well cut, as EGL make the sale final on an independant appraisal to make sure the diamond checks out.

The second is more of a shallow combo....You can do better than this one, also although it says h&a images are needed to support this claim. Also it might be best to check if the diamond shows obstruction, this is where the diamond visibly darkens due to the shadow of the viewer's head/ body blocking the light to the diamond. You can check this yourself easily by bending over the diamond to see if it does go dark.

The third is borderline steep deep as explained above but if you can get an Idealscope image that would help as above.

Are you crazy? That stone looks humungous on her tiny hand! A 2ct with a halo is nothing to sneeze at
