DH and I are childfree by choice, so we make a big deal out of each other's birthday. That being said, I "expect" that there will be a gift that I may or may not have picked out on my own, and a very nice dinner. Some 
would be nice too. We sometimes travel for birthdays - we went to Vegas for his last year and my 40th was spent at sea on a cruise.
This year DH was sick as a dog on my birthday and his birthday involved me running over a deer on the way to a hockey game and getting a text from my Dad proclaiming that Thanksgiving was cancelled. It was NOT a good year for us, birthday wise, so I expect next year to be so much better!
