you feel like you''re coming down with something? I do today, and was curious of others...

I normally get comfort food... take some vitamins... drink some hot tea... and curl into a warm little ball. You?

I don''t usually do anything different other than go to bed extra early to get more rest.

emergen-c and take a nap, sometimes eat ice cream lol

I make sure I have plenty of painkillers and fluids handy and go to bed. Do you feel poorly?

I'm in the cynical camp - I don't believe in any of the vitamin C/herbs/home remedies. I get sick a lot and find that you just need to tough it out for the duration - once you have a virus, you can't really get rid of it (medical science supports this). For this reason, I don't really do anything special when I can feel a cold coming on because I don't think anything helps (unless it's the placebo effect, which can be awesome if it works!).

However, I'm all for things that make you feel better while you're sick! Tea seems to help - it kind of eases the sore throat. And of course soups for the same reason. And the steam can help congestion. I drink a lot of tea when I'm sick (DH says adding an extra sugar helps as well

) Any comfort food is high on my list when I'm not feeling well.

I'm also extremely prone to sinus infections. In the last year I've started taking Mucinex D only with every cold (it loosens the mucus, some things actually thicken it, which is bad for me) and using a neti pot. Neither seem *that* helpful at the time for relieving symptoms (except for the decongestant in the Mucinex), but I haven't had to take an antibiotic since I've been doing this (I used to take them 2-3 times per year, plus a steroid once), so I consider it a success. All of my doctors recommend both highly for treating and preventing sinus infections. Being back on allergy shots also helps me.

Echinacea and Vitamin C. People say they don''t work.....but it helps me get rid of that ''coming down with a flu'' feeling pretty fast.

I drink a lot of water and take it easy.

It depends how bad I feel. If I feel OK, I''ll try and sweat it out with a good workout.

If I feel bad enough, I''ll just take it easy, drink some night time tea, and go to bed early.

Normally if anyone around me gets sick its only a short time until I too am sick. A few months ago my whole house was sick and just for laughs and giggles I took Airborne for a few days. I didn''t get sick! No way to know if the Airborn was why but you better bet next time they or I get sick I''m gonna go pick up some more.

One of the first things I do when I think I might be coming down with the flu is

scrub the toilet.

I actually take my multivitamin, usually also a separate vitamin c tablet, lots of OJ, and turn the humidifier all the way up!

I love the smell of vicks, that''s one of very few good things about getting sick

Just sleep and wait till it goes away.

make chicken broth with lots of ginger and onion. :P

SC - you've managed to combine three of my most disliked ingredients.

FI, on the other hand, loves this exact combination.. must be a male thing..

OJ, sinus rinse and sleeeeeep. Feel better!

Sleep!
Then some more sleep. Let the body heal itself.

Gargle with Listerine, hydrate, get lots of sleep.

Sleep, lots of fluids, and throw out my toothbrush once I start to feel better and start using a new one.

I sleep as much as possible. Even if that means dosing myself with Nyquil to go to bed early.

I sleep A TON. Like probably 9-10 hours a night if I can swing it. It has stopped many a cold or sickness from progressing. I also make sure I''m better about taking my vitamins which I tend to forget.

Thanks guys! I''d love to hear more. I have felt since yesterday as if I''m coming down possibly with a cold.... congested... coughing..... and last night I wasn''t "hungry" but made myself eat a home made grill cheese and some chicken noodle (It is my sick comfort meal, thank goodness it''s all beneficial). I DO believe airborne is good for prevention (my aunt takes it before every flight. If she doesn''t it''s inevitable that she gets a cold... I swear it''s true), but if I''m already feeling the symptoms it isn''t a cure. I do still take it sometimes as a mini vitamin "bomb". Last night I took a multi vitamin, had a tiny bit of milk to coat my stomach (which has been up and down) and, I actually tried a short sweat session. It helped my back (OMG OMG OMG) but nothing else, so I rested the rest of the night. Today I am still congested, and it is cold, and I feel poopy. I am drinking lots of fluids right now, and waiting it out.

I love to hear about what others try though. I love home remedies (I''m the first to grab ingredients for a hot toddy when my throat hurts).

yuk - i hope you feel better!

the first thing i do is change my toothbrush. so i go through about 3 a year

.
then i make hot water, add lemon & honey for a soar throat.
for an upset stomach - comfort food - whatever that is for you.
other than that, theraflu & lots of it. it forces you to drink water.

jcarly - I had never thought of the toothbrush idea.... I might pick one up on the way home now.

I''m inhaling water... I''m soooo thirsty when I''m sick. I guess that''s a good thing. I add the Crystal Light Immunity and Crystal Light Energy packets since they have nutrients and electrolytes I''ll need.
I only do Theraflu at night, as it warms me up before bed (I like to be cozy in bed).

Watch the crystal light for sodium which can dehydrate you even more.

I checked the boxes, and they say 0 grams.
