I know we have many members with different professions!

What do YOU do for a living?
OR if in school, what do you aspire to do? OR if not in school and have a job, what do you still aspire to do?

I''ll start...

I am a social worker for a community behavioral health center. I work with people with disabilities and mental health issues. Not one day is the same; its challenging, draining, stressful, and demanding, but I enjoy what I do. The people you help make your day worth it in the end.

I have a bachelors degree in Paralegal Studies and I''ve worked as a paralegal ever since I graduated. My boss specializes in bankruptcy and family law. Right now he''s weeding out the family law/domestic cases and focusing on bankruptcies. I work on nearly all of the bankruptcy cases that come through our office, from beginning to end, and I love it. I''m a reasonably nosy person so I think it''s sort of fun to go through peoples bills and finances and see what kind of hole they''re in. The most amount of consumer credit card debt that I''ve seen was around 190K and we''ve had people file bankruptcy for as little as 10K in debt.

Five facts about bankruptcy that most average consumers don''t know:

1. It will not ruin your credit for life. Sure, for about 2 years or so your credit won''t be steller. But, you can begin to reestablish credit immediately after discharge and if you are responsible then you''ll be just fine. If you can''t figure out how to be responsible then you''re SOL.

2. There are certain credit issuers that blacklist bankruptcy customers - meaning that if you have an account with XYZ and then file bk on them you''ll never be able to open another account with them ever again. There are also some that blacklist people who file bk period (which is against the law, by the way).

3. People who file for bankruptcy are, for the most part, not deadbeats. Yes, we do have some "serial filers" that have come through my office but the vast majority of our clients have come by some really hard times and have not been successful in negotiating with their creditors. In this economy particularly we have many clients that were living within their means and then lost their job(s) putting them in a dire financial situation.

4. You can only file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy (total discharge of debt) every 8 years (from the date of file) but you can file as many Chapter 13 cases (bill repayment plan) as the judge will let you.

5. If you want to clean up your credit after bankruptcy or just in general then you should check out www.creditboards.com. I found this website while doing some post-bankruptcy counseling research for my boss and I must say that it is great. I''ve never posted there, but I am a member so I can have access to the protected forums and I am able to pass along valuable information to my clients.

Newly credentialed multiple subject/elementary ed teacher with an M.Ed. I substitute, mostly in ASD (autism spectrum disorder) classrooms -- permanent jobs are few and far between right now; I have been in long term positions in said classrooms this whole school year. I also work part time for a socialization program for children on the spectrum as well as work respite/child care for a kiddo on the spectrum.

DH & I own an antique mall, we run it and own the commercial property it''s in. I run the front desk 4 days a week and am the "manager" (what a joke, I am sooo not a manager
20.gif
AT ALL.) Still, the people I work with seem to like me for some reason, and I adore them, I feel so incredibly blessed to have a staff I love to work with. DH works with me 3 days a week.

I also own a mineral makeup website, which keeps me busy in my "time off". Since we own the building the antique mall is in, I was able to take over a room in the basement to work out of after I had to hire a couple people a few months ago. Not so much with the free time these days!

I love both things I do. A lot. I feel so incredibly lucky to have jobs I look forward to going to, and people I love working with.

I teach many different kinds of dance to kids of all ages and experience levels. It can be so very fun when it doesn''t get too dramatic and competitve, although I do thrive on the competitve ones-- they are also the ones who are serious about dance!

It is so neat to hear what everyone does for a living! I'll play...

I am a Physician Assistant student who is so close to finishing that I can taste it! I am done in July! I hope to work in Family Medicine as I fell in love with it even after I swore up and down that I WOULD NOT COULD NOT spend my days treating high blood pressure and high cholesterol and diabetes. But, low and behold, I believe it is my calling. We shall see what the world holds for me in July, though....

Sigh. I have a bachelors in graphic design.

No one is hiring in this area.
And, if they are, they really don''t want to pay you. It''s terrible.

Since BF can support me (and does right now for the most part) I think I might just get a PT job in a cool store (ha) and do freelance or make babies on the side (joking on the babies). He''s ok with it. Oddly enough, everyone that knows us has an opinion on our situation and I wish they would just shove it. I also would like to go back and get my masters, but uh, I can''t afford that. Hmmf.

I also, would like to be a SAHM. We are not planning on children for a few years (wedding is spring 2010, and wont start until a year after). So I really need to find something to do for a few years that I love. Actually, I love art and design, but this area I''m in right now just IS NOT HIRING, and if they are, they want 10+ years of being in the field.

Everyone tells me I''m talented, but it''s very depressing to me. So my job right now is to stay happy. Blah I''m rambling.

I''m an HR Adviser for local government. I''ve got a BA in Business and graduating in the summer with a Masters in Human Resource Management.

Would love to have my own business one day with my sister running a kids play centre, but that''s looking exceedingly doubtful just now due to the credit crunch.

My dream job would have been a travel writer.

I'm a student in Psychology.

And I don't plan to use it. I will likely do something creative.

In a previous life I was a pastry chef. I have a degree and a half in it. And I still dabble in that occasionally.
