For me its got to be chocolate. It doesn't stop me buying it but when I tally up just how much I spend on the stuff I realise what a complete waste of money it was!

I also think lotto scratch cards are a waste too. I never win anything!

I don''t do this, but my dad buys iced teas in 1/2 gallons from this store we have in the NE called Wawa. He buys two half gallons a day and has been doing so for 10 years. When I guesstimated how much he''s spent on iced teas from this place, I was in shock. I guess it''s kind of not frivolous, but the money really adds up!!

Overpriced coffee from these coffee shops. Really...no coffee is worth $5 a cup.

PPL are paying so much for what my grandmother made every day at home (Bustelo coffee) and was DE-LI-CIOUS!

So glad I learned how to make spanish coffee!

i think that scratch cards are a waste too. i think all gambling is a waste of money. i know that some people have won big, but i bet they lost more than they won.
i dated a guy once that about a month after we broke up he won $100,000.00. i was kicking myself for weeks!

i dont think chocolate is as big a waste. first of all it is delightful and secondly you have never heard of anyone going bankrupt over chocolate. lol. can you imagine?

"i cant pay my mortgage"
"why?"
"chocolate!"

hahaha

I agree that fancy coffee is a total waste, atroop.

I brew delicious coffee every morning in my classroom, and each cup costs pennies. I usually have to brew two pots each day because many of my colleagues have given up their Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts habits for my coffee.

I think bottled water is a waste!

Cigarettes!

An average smoker spends about $2,000 a year on cigarettes. I can think of many other things (healthy things, such as jewelry
27.gif
) I could spend that money on.

Bottled water, yes! A waste of money, and a waste of the environment.

fancy coffee
bottled water
soda

CHOCOLATE IS A NECESSITY! IT IS NOT A WASTE OF MONEY!

Spending money on clothing that you will wear only once is a total waste of money (with the exception of a wedding gown, of course). My DD has to have (she says) a new dress & shoes for every school formal and prom. She has never worn them more than once! I have donated them to an organization that gives these dresses to underprivileged girls.

This is what I was going to say! I''m so glad I''ve never been a smoker because it just seems like burning money!

This bottled water obsession drives me nuts! So now my husband saves all of his bottles and I keep my PUR kitchen water filter changed regularly and we fill our own water bottles. When I read that some companies take regular tap water and purify it somehow, I was

and angry over wasted money. We also brew our own DD coffee at home and carry our coffee in nifty stainless mugs that we won at our Christmas grab bag exchange.

We also only go out to eat once in a blue moon now as a treat and it''s usually to our local diner. Spending $100.- to $125.- for dinner is a total waste (for us). I know a lot of people do it, but I just can''t justify that for myself. I''d rather take that $125.- , go to the grocery store and spend it on everything that''s on sale that week.

Socks!

Especially the athletic kind.

Of course I buy & wear them, but they get holes so quickly! I think most socks cost way too much for how long they actually last. It makes me sad when a sock gets a hole and I have to throw it away...

Expensive cars, expensive cable TV packages, socks, underwear and bras! I guess socks, underwear and bras aren''t really complete wastes of money but I think they''re so overpriced!

bras, we need them but I always think, "I spent that much for a bra?!?!?"

Parking tickets and speeding tickets are a complete waste of money.

Magazines. I used to love them, but now all the info is available "free" online, faster.

Tanning memberships

Ditto--especially since you can watch most things over the air or online for free!

Lyra, I agree, and was about to post the same thing until I saw that you already had!

Skippy, I think bras are a complete rip off as well, I wish we really got what we paid for. Every once in a while I either get a really good deal, or a really good fit, but it seems like never both! If I do get both, they''re not pretty!!! LOL!

Also agree with the expensive coffee thing...we have done both Pike''s Peak Sbux at work and regular old Folger''s, and I have to say that either one makes me just as alert and happy.

I think super convenient cleaning supplies like Swiffer dusters, Chlorox wipes, etc. are also a waste of money...I always buy them, but I know I am being lazy because I can do the same job and keep things just as clean using concentrated cleaner/water and recycled rags. I''m really terrible about that but am trying to get better.

DF, did you just get home from meeting one of those couples who lives in a $500K home with no means to pay for it dinner? Just kidding.

What about koi? You think those are a waste of money? Or is that a "serious" hobby?

I agree that women''s underwear is also overpriced, but I can''t say a waste of money as I''m not the type that can go without a bra ! But I must admit, I''ve been wearing the same two styles of Elle McPherson bras for about the last 10 years, and they do last for ever...
