i think that scratch cards are a waste too. i think all gambling is a waste of money. i know that some people have won big, but i bet they lost more than they won.
i dated a guy once that about a month after we broke up he won $100,000.00. i was kicking myself for weeks!
LOL, it paid my way through University! I will admit that I had to put a lot of time and hardwork into doing that well (I bet on the gee gees) and I''m a very controlled small stakes gambler.

Nowadays I only bet on politics - I don''t have enough spare time to dedict to following form on the horses these days - and I am substantially up. I opened my first account with a bookmaker when I was 18 with £10 GBP and I have never had to pay more money in.

Sadly I am somewhat down on the Poker - DH plays a lot and I started learning playing with people who had been at it for years. I hold my own nowadays but am probably still waiting to break even. However, it probably costs me the same as a night out at the cinema plus a pizza, so can''t complain!

However any form of gambling that is a game of chance holds no interest for me and is a total waste of money - I have never played the lottery, a fruit machine or any casino game except proper poker.

Other waste of money things for me:

- Most brand names: some are quality products but many are not. Prada clothing for example is dire in quality IMO, but their leather goods are exceptional - I have a purse (for money not a handbag) I bought in 2001 and have used everday since then and it still looks almost new. It was expensive but worth every penny as I use it so much. I would never pay more than $150 for a handbag though... or I pay extra for something I could get for cheaper and equally quality elsewhere though - ie Tiffany

- Expensive coffee

- Anything I haven''t got a great discount on!

aaactually, on the gambling thing....

probably the biggest waste of money i EVER saw was at a casino. i went with a guy i knew who was an angry, overly assertive kind of guy, and who also liked to be seen to be ''living large''. his plan was to take me to the casino and ''show me a good time''. in the car on the way there, i chatted to him about gambling in australia, and what a social disease it is there (HUGE problem there). consequently, i had never been inside a casino and had always thought they were the last stop to losersville, so to speak.

so we get to the casino, and he goes up to a machine. it''s right near the entrance, so i think he''s buying chips. or something. or whatever one does in a casino. he feeds in 10 $20 bills - not real fast, about 15 seconds in between each. the whole process takes about 2 mins total during which time i''m gazing around the room, seeing whatever i could see during my first time in a casino. then he turns round to me and says, very cross and somewhat angry, and VERY accusatory:

"I ALWAYS win on this machine! you put out bad energy - it''s all your disapproval!"

apparently it was a $5 slot machine and he''d just blown $200 while we stood there. and apparently this was my fault. me. who thought it was a change machine and didn''t even realize he was gambling.

so then he suggested i go and sit in the cafeteria/restaurant while he goes and plays the tables. which is what we did - for 2 hours. most boring 2 hours of my life. biggest waste of money i EVER saw, and also the biggest waste of my time. 2 ''biggests'' in the one hit. UGH!

3 ''biggests'', actually. biggest loser i ever met, too. what sort of an idiot treats his money with such little respect??

daft.
