I don''t really know anything about OEC but I''m not a fan of EGL certs.

The stone itself looks gorgeous. You just need to be aware that with an EGL cert the stone is likely lower in color and possibly clarity than the cert says. So you need to ask yourself if you''re comfortable paying that much for possibly a I SI1 too. If the answer is yes, then it''s probably fine!

The stone does look very pretty! I''d take the chance on it as long as it is returnable if it does not meet your expectations.

Yeah, I was aware of the EGL cert problem. I checked and the cert if from the USA branch, so I know that helps things.

I have two transitional cuts and I''d say that looks more like a transitional than an OEC because the faceting is very uniform and it looks quite symetrical, as much as I can see from a photo. Can you call it in, or get it with a return policy so you can see it in person and have it appraised? I agree, EGL is bleh, but if you can see it in person and love it, it looks like it might have alot of life to it!

I was wondering how I can get diamonds ''called in'' What does this mean?

"Calling in" means the vendor will bring in the stone for you to look at. Is this an online vendor or a B&M shop?

The picture looks promising. Since this is an EGL USA cert, I think it''s all right. My OEC also has the same type of cert and all the specs came out as stated (WF called it in for me). You need to post a couple other rather important information:
1. Crown height (should be listed in the cert too)
2. Symmetry
3. Polish
4. Girdle thickness

The table is a wee bit large for an OEC but I like the cute open culet and how it is reflected back in several spots.

ok I have the certification now. I''ve tried to attatch it. All the numbers look good. The diamond is from Old World Diamonds.

texasaggie-we recently purchase an EGL-USA certed cushion cut diamond. I know EGL has a reputation for being "loose" with their grading, but for what it''s worth my stone was graded as a H VS2 diamond. I sent the stone to a reputable PS appraiser and it was appraised as an I VS1. And honestly they felt it could be a low H/high I, but to be safe went with I. I found it VERY interesting that the appraiser thought the clarity was BETTER than the cert. I know my story is the exception not the rule, but I thought I''d share.

So it''s just something to think about, I personally would have the stone sent to an appraiser and go from there.

It looks like a great stone btw...

Texaggie,
Glad you posted the cert.
1. Crown height looks sweet at 16%. Should have nice fire.
2. Symm & Polish as Good. I guess it''s all right. A VG rating is preferred but with old cut stones, beggars can''t be choosers.

3. I''m glad the culet isn''t VThin. Thin to Sl thick is great. Not too much chance of chipping compared to a vthin girdle.

Have you seen this in person yet? I think she''s going to be a real pretty one in person.

Looking at that picture - that is a beautiful OEC!!!

As some of the others have said, I wouldn''t worry about EGL if your''re fine with the color/clarity grades MAY be 1 or 2 steps below what it says on the certificate.

However, if you are NOT seeing this stone in person, I would get an ASET or an idealscope image, which will give you an idea of the light return.

As others have said, "calling it in" means that the vendor does not have the diamond in his physical inventory. In order to get an idealscope or ASET image (if online vendor) or to see the diamond in person. The vendor must call in the diamond. They may charge to do so. Some vendors will attribute the charge to the cost of the diamond if you end up buying it from them.

It looks like a beautiful cut!!

If you are happy with the stone, I would say get it. Do you know which EGL lab your stone was graded in...some labs have a better reputation than others when it comes to EGL. Also, what is the upgrade and/or return policy where you are purchasing the stone?

I think that the LA lab is more stringent from what I have read on PS.

I think it is beautiful and if it appeals to you then that is what truly matters.....

GOOD LUCK!

This is an old post from 2 months ago. I would stop responding to this thread because:

1. I think the original poster has purchased his/her stone and is no longer here
2. I think the original poster is no longer interested and has moved on.
