What do think this ring might be worth?

This ring is yellow gold 14K TG with a very simple solitaire prong setting. I believe the prong is white gold but I am not entirely sure. The diamond is round cut. The ring itself was probably purchased around 1981. I doubt if it is worth much but am interested in applying this ring's worth towards a new ring. The only appraiser listed on PS is almost two hours away from me.

Its not certified? You don't have any idea what size it is? What is your ring size?

Are you planning on selling the ring yourself or have you found someone that will take it as trade-in?

It probably was certified at one time. It has been lost for years! The ring was my mom's so who knows where she put it.

I will probably try to sell the ring myself. I asked a jeweler what the trade in value would be and was told they would pay about $50 for the band. I didn't get a diamond price since I was considering adding the diamond to a new ring. I think it would be more cost effective if I just sold the whole thing a one.

My ring size is 4.5. If I had to guess I would say the diamond is about a 4/4.5mm but I could be wrong.

So you're asking what could you get for it on the second hand market? You really need a jeweler to give you some
Estimates on color/size/clarity.

Edit ... I would look on ebay for some comps. Right now you don't have enough information to put it up for sell.

Just to give you an idea, excellent cut, new .30 H SI1's are in the $500 range, and this may not be excellent cut. If you were offered a couple hundred for the diamond, honestly, I'd keep it and use it in a pendant or get a match and make diamond studs out of it.

I am asking for an estimate. I am not looking to put this ring up for sale tomorrow. I realize I need to talk to an appraiser before I try to sell this ring. I was just interested in to hear from PS people if they could offer their idea of what it might be worth. Ebay is good place to start looking at comps. Thank you!

I thought new diamonds in the .30 range were about $500. Thank you for the confirmation:) I would be very surprised if I got more than $300 (if that) for the ring. I wasn't planning on wearing the ring anymore so even a couple hundred would be nice discount for the other ring I was considering buying. I do like the diamond stud idea though!
