not sure where to post this so decided to post in this sub forum

i have been to my local jewelry shops n they always mentioned "FREE" upgrade of the diamond within 2yrs period. clause is, must be ie. 35% more expensive than the old diamond.

what do they deal with the old diamonds that customers traded in? Do they just sell it by doing simple polish, using back the same serial #, put in a setting and sell as new? Or they cut it again to a smaller diamond then sell as a different serial no#?

I see some online vendors might be offering this too. so what do they really do to those 'used' diamonds they received from customers trade in?
thank you

I am not a jeweler, nor in the business, but I would hazard to guess that they simply check them over to make sure they are in good condition (no scratches, chips, etc.), and just re-sell them. Aside from pawn shops , I've never really seen any store advertising "used diamonds", except for pieces that are set, sometimes they have an area where they put trade-ins.
