So, I had my center stone replaced by Insurance. I was unhappy with that stone which was VS2 F .81, so they replaced it was a VS1 G 1.00 carat. I am still waiting on the approval to pick up the stone, but was worried how it looked so I went to the jeweler to see it. I am now freaking out about the bowtie. I took some photos which I attached of the VS2 F and the VS1 G. I thought the VS2 F had a bowtie, but im no expert so I think I was wrong and made a horrible decision! What do I do, my husband is so upset about all the drama! What are all your thoughts on either diamond, should I ask for the VS2 F diamond back??? The first 2 photos are of the VS2 F stone in my ring and the last photo is of the VS1 G stone that is now set in my ring. What are your thoughts?? It is really bad?

If you are not happy then ask the jeweler to provide a few different stones and choose the best one. It does appear to have a bowtie in those images.

And keep your husband out of it ;)) Men just get stressed and mad about this stuff, and that is no help at all to us.

I agree with Dreamer. I'd ask to see a couple more stones, and I definitely wouldn't settle for one that I wasn't happy with. You have live with and look at this stone for a very long time!

I had been back and forth about an upgrade for about 5 months, first I couldn't decide about budget, and then about size, and then I went through the whole 'the money could be spent elsewhere' and then back to size, then color, then..... Although DH has been an amazing sport about the whole thing I could totally see the glazing over of the eyes and when at last I said 'maybe we should wait until next year?' He looked at me and demanded that I pick something, anything right now!! So, as much as we obsess about our jewelry and as supportive as our DH's try to be, they just can't be quite as involved as we would like them to be. Of course, no way would I spend an afternoon looking at fishing tackle, let alone 5 months of discussions about it, so he's off the hook as long as he writes the check. ;)

edit: There doesn't seem to be a big size difference between the .81 and the 1ct in the photos, do you see much of a difference IRL?

Based on the photos, the first diamond you posted doesn't seem to have a distracting bow tie. The second one's bowtie isn't good; it definitely looks like there's light leaking out of the back. I would definitely return that one and either pick the first one or spend some time with the jeweler looking at several more stones. Good luck!

I definitely see the bow tie in the G, but not as noticeable in the F. Don't settle for something you are not happy with. You paid for the ring, you paid for the insurance, they are NOT providing you with the service that you are expecting if they gave you a stone you are unhappy with. As upsetting as it is to have to continue to press the issue for what you want, it will be worth it in the long run.

I, too, hate to rock the boat for fear of making someone unhappy that I'm a complaining 'so and so'... but its ok to want to be happy with what you bought! I'd say, continue to discuss this further with the jeweller to find you a stone you are going to be comfortable with.

Hope it works out smoothly for you :))

I like the look of the F better and agree with Christina that there's not much visual size difference. Maybe you could keep that one on hold, just in case, but see if they can get in a couple of others for you before you settle down on one? I can't think that you'd ever be the first to be unsure of your stone, so I am sure this is something they must deal with often. But you will be the one wearing it so you need to be happy with it.

HI:

Sorry for the drama/stress. Can you view the stones before they are set? The photography here makes it difficult "for me" to see the details. But you can best see what you like close up when you have the opportunity to tilt the stone around, when loose.

Ovals have bow ties--porportion of the stone can help to minimize the appearance of the bowtie. But how much or how little you can tolerate is personal; that is why you need to see a few, loose, before choosing. KWIM?

cheers--Sharon
