What color stone for future SIL??

When I got engaged hubby let me pick my own stone and I got a RB .95 K VS2 stone. And I love it! So obviously I''m a believer in the beauty and value of lower colored stones like many others

Now I''m helping my brother find a stone for my (hopefully) future SIL.

What color stone would you suggest for a future SIL??? Should I play it "safe" and stay on the higher end (G-H)? Or look for getting more size for the $ down in I/J range?

It just seems a little different picking a stone for someone other than myself!

I say I''d go for I or J in color depending on if she is color sensitive or not. But I dont think it will bother her...esp. if you get an ideal cut stone..she''ll be blown away by the sparkle factor and wont even notice the lower color!

My "sweet spot" for me is I or J in color and eyeclean SI1 or SI2...more bling for your buck that way.....although Jonathans new ~2.4 chunky cushion is an L in color and VS2 in clarity and I''d gobble that baby up in a minute if I had the funds!

Does he have an idea what her priorities are? Also, what is his budget?

What shape she wants? What size she''s hoping for? How much does he have to spend, and does he want a solitare or something else? I''d ask him for more information.

I personally would go for an I in and ideal round for another person... but any other cut, I''d stick to H and higher.

I would play it extra safe at F G or H colour.

Who needs to know? Seriously, do people walk up to you on the street and say, "What color is your diamond?!" If they do, they shouldn''t. If they do, they shouldn''t get an answer. A well cut (and by that I mean something along the lines of AGS 0) J or K would maximize size and be great (and don''t people make judgments about diamond size, whether they should or not?). So I''d say J or K OR if you want to be extremely conservative and play the "social expectations" game, I''d advise an I, but no higher. My 2 cents.

If the stone were a carat or less and was a top-make stone, I''d feel comfortable going I/J.

If you could get one with Fluor. then I would do the I/J. Otherwise I''d stick to an H. Or chat with her and find out what she likes, or chat with one of her friends. I''m sure it''s tough making these choices for someone else.
