I didn''t know where to post this, kind of a random question! I have a large cushion cut solitaire, purchased from a estate jeweler. The diamond is warm, the original paperwork that came with ring stated it was I color. We then had it independently appraised and the jeweler stated it was more of J than I, a little disappointing but we got the ring at a amazing price and I love it, so we decided to deal. Fast forward to a month later and another jeweler who had resized the ring said it was nearly an H. I understand these colors are within in 1-2 grades of each other and interpretation can vary depending on color sensitivity but I honestly can''t tell either so maybe fellow PSers can help! Sometimes I think it looks faint yellow and other times, it looks icy white. It does have a strong blue fluor and a great cut so that may have something to do with it.
Photos (with/without flash): white at every angle
Jewelry store: icy white at every angle
Grocery store: white with a little bit of beige at edges, every angle
Indoors, white walls, indirect lighting: beige white
Outdoors, bright direct light: white with strong flashes of blue, every angle
Outdoors, overcast: Light yellow, every angle
What really bothers me is how the stone looks outdoors, in overcast weather (which where I live, in upstate NY is the norm)
... it looks pretty yellow from all angles. I wonder if it''s a J, or even a K with a great cut and fluor which bumps up the color grade appearance in direct lighting. I would post pics but they always show up white. What do you think. I love it regardless but would like everyone''s input
