I am in the market for a new laptop. My previous laptop was a Dell, and it served me well...but I am a little cautious about purchasing another one due to the difficult time my DH''s partner and my parents have had with theirs. So, what brand do you have, and do you like it?

My home and work computers are both HPs. I like them. I think the issue I have with new computers in general isn''t so much with the computers themselves, but with the operating systems they all come with. I am NOT a fan of Vista.

We''ve only used Dell in our house for years, after having problems with HP. We''ve never had any problems with the many Dells we''ve owned over the years. Also, I worked for GE for many years and they gave us Dell laptops for work, so I fugure that says something!!!

MacBook Pro, 17" 2.8 GHz.

My DH says the same thing about Vista. I would love to just wait till Windows 7 comes out in October, but I''ve gone a few months with just using our desktop (really, DH''s home office computer, he works from home some), and its driving me nuts not having access to a laptop. Also, this weekend is tax free up to a certain amount on computers, which is a decent savings.

Macbook Air.

I would not do Vista. Wait for the new OS if you are getting another PC.

Dell and MacBook Pro

My DH and I both have Acer laptops. They have been reliable and are reasonably prices. Bought mine at Costco a couple months ago. DH laptop is 2 years old now.

I have an HP pavillion. I like it and its been a good laptop, but I don''t think I''d buy another one. I''d go with Dell the next time around.

Macbook. I love it. But I would buy the extended AppleCare 3 year warranty if you do decide to go with it.

I''ve also had a few Dell desktops and liked them all.

My current laptop is an Acer. The only issue I have had is that the hard drive quit after about 6 months. Acer replaced it under warranty and the whole process was hassle free. I really need to upgrade, but don''t want Vista.

Mac. Love it.

macbook, love it!

HP Notebook, it''s been great so far.

Toshiba. Love my laptop!

I have a 5-year old '04 Mac PowerBook G4, the 15" size, last generation before they started using Intel processors. I have LOVED my laptop. Now that's it's 5 years old, it's getting a little slow, but other than that, the only thing I have to complain about is that the 'i' key doesn't work anymore (I just copy and paste them instead because fixing it is beyond my budget and probably not worth it at this stage in its life).

My next computer will be another Mac laptop, probably the MacBook Pro. They are just so reliable and don't constantly pop up with crazy weird error messages like my old PCs did.

I have had two Dells--the first was awful, but my current one has been serving me faithfully for 4 years. Due to my extended service contract, anything that goes wrong is fixed at my home by one of their technicians. I''ve only had one issue (screen shorted out and had to be replaced), and my screen was promptly replaced.

I have a Gateway, it was my graduation present from 5 years ago! I really love it, I love it even more that it''s still running well. The only things I don''t like is that since it''s 5 years old the ram and hard drive are kind of ridiculous and I can''t upgrade my ram because it''s some random size that would cost more than ram in newer stuff.
I won''t be heart broken if this breaks down sometime in the future because it''s been good so good to me.

BF has an MSI wind(netbook) he loves it, and I prefer it over his EEE.
I bought my sister a Gateway for Christmas and I''m hoping it lasts for her as long as mine has lasted me.
If I were to buy something I''d go for Gateway or Acer...then compare between processors and memory.

I have a sony VAIO. (It''s pink

) I love it! And yes, it does have vista... but I am so used to it now that I really like it! It''s weird for me to use computers with other operating systems now...

I have a very basic MacBook, my school gives them to us. It is just wonderful, like an extension of my brain. I sometimes have to use PCs and wonder why anyone bothers, it won''t take long for you to figure out how a mac works because so much thought has gone into making it operate intuitively. It is hard for mac people to switch back because the handy shortcuts and awesome applications just don''t exist in pc land. With any new mac you will have intel and word, so you will always be compatible but without all the Vista nonsense. Sorry to sound so vehement, DH is a pc and I am a mac and we have real conflict on this topic. His only defense of pcs is "they are cheap enough to replace when they break."

-Also there are almost no viruses out there that target macs so no security software to slow you down. Yes, and get applecare as it covers a ridiculous amount of the abuse we all dish out to our laptops.

Macbook Pro, first generation (so it''s 3.5 years old). Before that I had an Alienware custom-built, which was genuinely awful for my needs - super loud and horrible battery life. My brother has it now and it''s great for him, because he needs a crazy-powerful computer, needs it to be portable, but can always plug in. I had a compaq before that that was good, but any endorsement on that will be outdated because I bought it in 2000.

I think macs are really great, but some people have different needs and different budgets. Now that I''ve switched to the mac operating system, it''s REALLY hard to use Windows again. Everything just works the way I want it to on a Mac.

Macbook Pro (2008)

I used to have a Dell Inspiron and it was fine. It was heavy to travel with though, but I didn''t do that too often. It crashed in February and we we ended up getting a Sony Vaio to replace it. It''s been good so far although we had issues with it freezing once in a while. I thought it was a Window''s Vista issue and I hated it but my husband thinks that a couple of the spyware systems weren''t compatible. He fixed it somehow and we haven''t had problems since. I''d recommend the Vaio -- we didn''t need anything really fancy with a ton of features we''d never use, and overall it''s a great computer so far.

I have a mac iBook. I''d get a macbook in a heartbeat!! I had a compaq and hated it - I''ll never go back to a pc for a notebook computer.

tuckins1-your a smart carbon unit-with all due respect-all my electronics are sony-they do walk to a different drumb and have never had an issue with the brand-my 2cents...

MacBook Pro 15" and I love it! I had a MacBok 13" and loved that one too, but I recently bought my 15"...with my dissertation work, I was feeling to confined and limited with the 13" screen. I also got the 3 year AppleCare. I also have an iPhone and iPod...I like my Mac/Apple stuff.

Toshiba- I have no problems with it except that it came with vista.

I have a Gateway with Vista, its about a year and half old, I have not had any issues with it.

A compaq POS. I hate it and have been looking to get a new one too.
