Lord of the Rings was on the other night, and I haven''t read them since before the movies came out and I haven''t seen the movies recently, so it made me really want to read the books again. I''m not a big re-reader, but I do re-read Jane Austen novels. What books did you like so much you read them over again?

Harry Potter!!!

I also re-read books by Jennifer Weiner because I SO enjoy her style.

Also, Greek classics (The Odyssey, etc.)

Trixie Belden and Nancy Drew. Dragonlance-especially the Chronicles. Stephen King. Some of his, like The Stand and Eyes of the Dragon, I''ve read a zillion times, b/c I love them so much. Others, I''ve reread when it''s been several years and I don''t remember a lot about them. A Wrinkle in Time, the Little House on the Prairie books. If it''s a series and the next book has taken a while (like SK''s Gunslinger books), I''ll start at the beginning again.

There are many, many books I''ve really loved, but the only two I have loved enough re-read are Jane Eyre and Atlas Shrugged.

I''ve read The Lovely Bones quite a few times. I''m about to reread Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers. Trust me, it''s hilarious.

Vanity Fair - over, and over, and over.

Lord of the Rings! My one nod to sci-fi/fantasty

The Great Gatsby - all time favorite!

Great thread, Sabine.

Gone with the Wind
The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood
A Clockwork Orange
The Little Prince
Atlas Shrugged

I consider these books to be dear friends, and I miss them if we don''t spend some time together each year.

Oh! And Eat, Pray, Love!!! I learn something new from it every time I read it and I just find the storytelling so captivating!!!

I don''t really reread books, actually-I always remember everything as soon as I start rereading it! I think the only books I''ve reread are some classics I first read in middle school/high school.

I tend to not re-read books, but I love humorous authors. So when I have a hard time findiing a new book, I''ll pick an old favorite by Charles Bukowski or David Sedaris to hold me over.
Nothing like a good laugh and Bukowski in particular really knows how to lay down the word!

Hmm...

I reread a lot:

1) Harry Potter
2) Ender''s Game series
3) Pillars of the Earth
4) Lamb
5) John Scalzi''s books
6) Anne of Green Gables series and Little House on the Prairie (I''m a nerd - I love my childhood books)
7) Southern Vampire Mysteries
8) Dune series

A bunch more. I love rereading - it''s like going back to a familiar and comfortable place.

ETA: Packrat, I LOVE Eyes of the Dragon. It''s actually the only Stephen King book I''ve finished. Need to go reread that!

I reread ALL THE TIME, particularly in the bathtub. Very comforting. I also have TERRIBLE taste in books!

Some of my most reread:

The Time Traveler''s Wife
Shopaholic series
Jennifer Weiner books (Good in Bed and In Her Shoes)
Circle of Friends
The Thorn Birds
Augusten Burroughs (particularly Dry)
She''s Come Undone

I know there are more, but those are the ones screaming out to me right now...

I''m not a big re-reader either except for Jane Austen. I''ve read most of them multiple times. And also Edith Wharton''s ''The Age of Innocence.'' Everything else is a one-timer unless it''s a Harry Potter refresher read right before I go see the movie.

The Door Into Summer by Robert Heinlein
It always leaves me feeling positive.

I''m not big on re-reading, but there a few I''ve read several times:

- Fountainhead
- Pride and Prejudice
- The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time
- Right Ho, Jeeves
- Atlas Shrugged (althought I skip through the 50 page Galt monologue!)

To Kill a Mockingbird
The Keeper of the Bees
The Tender Bar

Like many of you, I have a book with all of Jane Austen''s novels in it that I reread a lot, they are comforting and cozy for me. I have probably reread all of the books in my library at least 3 times, I read quickly and like to go back through them to find the bits that I might have missed on the first pass. So even though I read a book in a day, I feel like I haven''t really "read" it until I go through it again and again.

I''m not a big re-reader. I''ve re-read Jane Eyre (love it) a few times over the years. It''s been at least 15 years since I''ve read it, so I''m due to read it again. I''ve accidentally re-read books I''ve forgotten I''ve read before. Does that count?

I have read Interpreter of Maladies at least 8 times. I have read Anne Boleyn a few times (excellent out of print biography) and for guilty pleasure reading, I always come back to Less Than Zero. Catcher in the Rye is an eternal classic as well, I've read it maybe 20-30 times. And yes, I have read the Twilight saga, and it was tedious and badly written but I felt really out of the loop when all the mayhem was going on until I read them.

I also don''t like to re-read, but here are 2 few favorites that I have:

WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS by Wilson Rawls
THE CHOCOLATE WAR by Robert Cormier

I love young adult books.

I re-read books quite frequently, which is why I like to buy them instead of getting them at the library. My favorites to re-read are Austen, Lord of the Rings (I think I read this about once a year for 5 years), some Dickens (Nicholas Nickleby is my fav to re-read), Chronicles of Narnia (though I mostly re-read those when I was younger), East of Eden, and pretty much anything I really liked the first time. Especially with more dense books, like Dickens, I enjoy reading them again because I can get more out of them the second time since I know the story. And with easier books like Harry Potter, they''re fun to re-read because they''re easy, fast, and entertaining.

harry potter for sure, i''ve read them about a gazillion times, i may actually need to buy new books soon mine are so worn out lol
Also The virgin suicides

A Separate Peace is another I''ve read several times. We read it in HS in English class and boy I liked it!

When I was little, mom bought those little Moby Dick abridged versions of the Classics-I still have them, tho some of them are looking mighty sad after being read over and over. Little Women, Robinson Crusoe, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea etc.

I''m not much of a re-reader. . .Right before Memoirs of a Geisha came out in the theater, I re-read that novel, even though it was only a good (not great) book. Also, I''ve re-read Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.

Other than those, the only ones I read again are non-fiction. There is one about dreams I''ve read 5+ times. The rest are about art and archaeology.

I love reading about everyone''s favorite repeat reads.

I must say, Monnie, that I am SHOCKED that you reread TKAM. That book is why I stopped teaching freshman English when I was a high school teacher.

I couldn''t bear to read it anymore!

How come? That was another we read in HS..tho I don''t think I''ve reread it.

Another reread is Island of the Blue Dolphins, tho it''s been years now. And, Behind the Attic Wall by Sylvia Cassedy. Also, Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon-that''s one of my all time favorites, and I think I read it every year!

My husband always tries to get me to read books he loves and finally, after trying to reciprocate for years, he finally agreed to one book I recommended. To Kill a Mockingbird. He HATED it! Hasn''t read any other books I''ve liked.

Haven, I can understand why you would tire of TKAM, I think teaching it would be different than reading it for pleasure now and then. One of my aunts gave me a copy when I was 12, and it was her favorite book. She and I get along famously but don''t see each other often and re-reading TKAM is one way for me to stay close to her in my mind. Also, every time I read it after having seen the movie I picture Atticus as Gregory Peck and that is sort of pleasurable for me.

Ooh that''s a good idea for a thread Haven - what books do you hate? Mine is The Scarlet Letter. I hated it in high school, and I really loathed it when I had to reread it in college for an Amer. Lit class.
