What are your thoughts on how government is handling COVID-19

There are no guarantee that they aren't carrying the virus themselves. I can just as easily catch the virus from a grocery clerk. I'd wear a mask when I'm out grocery shopping.

That's great that you would. Do you think people like the ones at TJ Maxx & that restaurant would? The grocery clerk wearing a mask helps protect the customer. The customer should also protect the grocery clerk by wearing a mask.

A friend sent this to me a few days ago and it hit home with me. Nothing political, just from the heart,

We'll be ready to re-open when bus drivers can tell riders to wear a mask and not get spit upon.
We'll be ready to re-open when McDonalds workers can say the dining room is closed without being screamed at and threatened.
We'll be ready to reopen when park rangers can ask people to social distance without being shoved into a lake.
We'll be ready to re-open when store employees can ask people to wear a mask before entering without being screamed at and threatened.
We'll be ready to re-open when we can show that we can listen and follow safety guidelines.
I don't know when the virus will be ready for us to re-open, but clearly we are not ready. Freedom is a responsibility, not just an unearned privilege to do as we please.
We are acting like a bunch of spoiled, whiny brats who are more than willing to hurt others and put others at risk.
We'll be ready to open when we treat each other with love and respect.
We are not ready.

Author unknown.

I am seeing more and more spoiled and whiny brats out in public who feel that their freedom is simply a right that comes without responsibility. Freedom is an earned privilege and the attitude of many that I am witnessing out in the public frightens me.

Again, this is not a political post - just a post that I put out there from my heart. I wish all of you well, black or white, brown or yellow, large or small, rich or poor; young or old; mean or kind.....................

Yeah people getting literally assaulted for trying to enforce rules to keep everyone safe is just mind boggling.

A dollarstore employee was shot and killed over it. Unbelievable.

People's chance of survival is linked to others lack of judgement and consideration of others

Things opening too soon and people going crazy when it does...……….

This explains my feelings as well. So many people who are so gung ho about openings things up yet are completely unwilling to make any concessions that will help keep things open. Where is the logic in that?

I was at the grocery store last night and someone asked the cashier how many people come in without a mask. He answered 1%.
We’ve had less than 50 cases in a county of 100,000 with higher daytime population. We’ve had no community spread. Over half of our cases are recovered and we’ve had 1 new case in 2 weeks.

People everywhere are not being inconsiderate. Many people here are being more compliant than needed given we are in really really good shape. It’s a huge country, OS does not FA. It is unfortunate that some bad actors get all the attention.

It is unfortunate. I'd say about 50% are not wearing masks here when I go out which is about once a week. My county has had 64 cases, no deaths, and the of the 4 counties around us, 3 have had zero cases and one has had 4 this whole time. The neighboring state residents come across the border to do their shopping but that hasn't increased our cases oddly enough. Stores that are open are following protocols laid out by the governor. The state has a phased opening plan over the next month until the end of June barring any explosion of new cases. People are itching to get back to work though DH's place is having a hard time finding applicants. I wonder if it's because unemployment is paying so much?

Everyone has to be wearing a mask to enter any store here. There are employees doing this checks. However, once inside the store, I see around 25% either not wearing their masks or have it lowered down past their noses. They put their masks back on when checking out at the cashiers.

Our governor has issued a mask mandate for anyone outside but there is little way to enforce it. Most stores have a sign posted But that’s it. Our police department has reassured our community that while they will discourage any groups that have gathered they will not enforce the mask mandate if we are just out walking alone or with our family group. Wearing a mask while walking in the free and open air is unnecessary and not backed up by any science that I am aware of...assuming there are not other people close by of course.

I just read that one large blue county east of St Louis will start their own reopening plan on Wednesday in defiance of the governor. I am curious how he will respond.

I’m thrilled there is now a mask requirement.

The NIH just released a statement that if someone is talking loudly for 1 minute indoors, the droplets can linger in the air for
8 minutes.

I emailed King Soopers last week, asking why they didn't have a sign up requiring masks, though all but a few were wearing them when I was there. Either they were hearing from a lot of people, or they were afraid I'd report them (our county does have a mask policy), because today there were signs up, and announcement made on their loudspeaker .I only saw one woman and her child (probably around age 7) without a mask.

Apparently a man just broke a target employees arm over being asked to leave due to not wearing a mask.

THIS is why Trump needs to stop being a baby and wear a mask. He should not enable people to think “well if our president doesn’t wear one, I don’t have to, it’s my right not to, and you can’t say otherwise. I’m just physically defending my freedoms!”

And people will say “you can’t hold trump responsible for their bad actions” and to that I say, I’m not and that’s why I’m not saying he needs to be charged for aggravated assault. But what he is doing as a leader, role mode, and party leader is setting a terrible example for others to copy and contributing to these kinds of tensions by not providing the United message that everyone needs to follow the laws and wear a mask.

They will say it. It's ALL they have to cling to. Imagine being that vapid?

Same people who probably practice the “do as I say, not as I do” parenting and wonder why their kids “don’t listen” and misbehave. Oh they were listening...to all the bad examples set for them and hypocrisy tends not to hold weight, even with kids.

I guess in a way, people who refuse to wear masks when asked (I’m not talking about outdoors or in their own property) are just making it easy for the rest of us to identify people who have no respect for others and prioritize their comfort over the welfare of those around them or supporting the community unity. Like say, the current US government president I’m sad to say.

Yes, how stupid is that? Same where I live, you can't enter without a mask and all carts are sanitized. Then I see these dumbos pulling their mask down with their hands that aren't sanitized. Crazy.

Is it true they are turning on Dr Fauci?

If this article is true he really should move somewhere with lots of fresh air, quarantine himself, peace out and watch Covid19 go all Spanish flu on them!

If he's wrong then good for them!!!

Yeah it seems his insistence on caution about reopening has gotten him more and more unpopular among certain people..

I agree, man deserves a vacation. He doesn’t need to be doing what he’s doing, he’s in his 80s, he’s been sticking it out for the good of America but I don’t blame him if he wants to just quit at this point since all his effort is being repaid in death threats and people being paid to accuse him of sexual assault. Wtf.

Some (all?) states have a medical exemption for masks in public. A friend with asthma said as it warms up into summer and gets more humid she will not be able to wear a mask very long if at all. I certainly don’t think that is the case for the majority who aren’t wearing them but not everyone without a mask is just being a selfish jerk. She’s a bit concerned about being denied access somewhere or people approaching her about NOT wearing a mask in public.

The White House is testing daily and using contact tracing. The Fox News COO issued a memo extending their WFH initiative for all staff through at least June 15, even as hosts are parroting Trump on air and calling for an end to sheltering in place without adequate testing and contact tracing.

It’s beyond me why anybody thinks we should all do as they say and not as they do.

So true..i.e. Chris Cuomo whom was tested positive for the virus and was out roaming the town.He was lying about being under quarantine in his basement...:wall:

And stupidity wins in a city in Oklahoma.

"
as Oklahoma began easing restrictions set in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, one city abruptly ended an order that business patrons wear face coverings, citing threats against employees.

As of Friday, Oklahoma joined other states in beginning to permit some places, including restaurants and gyms, to reopen, although people continue to be diagnosed with COVID-19 in the state. Just hours after implementing the face covering emergency order on May 1, Stillwater, Okla., Mayor Will Joyce announced that the order was amended to ask businesses to “encourage, but not require, patrons to cover their faces” to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Stillwater City Manager Norman McNickle said in statement that soon after the city started requiring patrons to put on masks before entering spaces like restaurants and stores, “store employees have been threatened with physical violence and showered with verbal abuse. In addition, there has been one threat of violence using a firearm.”

“This has occurred in three short hours and in the face of clear medical evidence that face coverings helps contain the spread of COVID-19,” McNickle said.

Mayor Joyce, who had previously voiced concern that it might be too soon to open businesses in Stillwater, wrote on Twitter that although he was prepared for some people to object to the order, he did not anticipate that there would be “physical confrontations with employees and threatening phone calls to city hall.”

“I hate that our businesses and their employees had to deal with abuse today, and I apologize for putting them in that position,” said Joyce. “I am not the kind of person who backs down from bullies, but I also will not send someone else to fight the battle for me. I issued a revised order this afternoon to correct this problem, and we will continue to reevaluate our approach to face coverings.”

He also criticized people who had responded aggressively to the rule, noting, “We should all get used to the idea of wearing a face covering to protect one another.”

“To the people who resort to threats and intimidation when asked to take a simple step to protect your community: shame on you. Our freedom as Americans comes with responsibilities, too,” Joyce wrote.

In the city’s statement, McNickle criticized people with the “mistaken belief” that requiring face masks is unconstitutional, saying, “No law or court supports this view.” He noted that a lawsuit against Guthrie, Oklahoma’s order was dismissed by the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma.

“It is further distressing that these people, while exercising their believed rights, put others at risk,” said McNickle. “As mentioned, there is clear medical evidence the face coverings prevent COVID-19 spread; they are recommended by both the CDC and the Oklahoma State Department of Health. The wearing of face coverings is little inconvenience to protect both the wearer and anyone with whom they have contact. And, an unprotected person who contracts the virus can infect their own loved ones and others.”

Mask shaming. We are our own worst enemy. No question about it.

More violence erupting over wearing masks and other restrictions.

As the poet John Donne wrote: "Do not ask for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee".

That reminds me of the saying, "No good deed goes unpunished". Kudos to Dr. Fauci for his honor and bravery.

Is it true they are turning on Dr Fauci?

This is the latest. While Fox News and Senator Rand Paul (the one who spread covid19 all through the Senate gym and locker room) condemn him Liz Cheney has defended him.
She is a Congresswoman from Wyoming and part of the Republican leadership as well as the daughter of former Vice-President Dick Cheney.

"Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) defended White House task force member Dr. Anthony Fauci on Tuesday night as he comes under fire from pro-Trump conservatives for speaking out against reopening the U.S. at this stage of the COVID-19 outbreak, as President Donald Trump has advocated.

Cheney, a member of GOP leadership as House Republican Conference chair, called Fauci 'one of the finest public servants we have ever had' via Twitter.

'He is not a partisan. His only interest is saving lives,' the GOP leader tweeted.'We need his expertise and his judgment to defeat this virus.'

'All Americans should be thanking him. Every day,' she continued.

Though Cheney did not mention any one person in particular, her tweet came after Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) told Fauci during a Senate hearing that he 'ought to have a little bit of humility' regarding the health official’s warning against reopening the U.S. prematurely."

I mean the hubris of Fauci! How dare a respected and accomplished physician and long time civil servant give their perspective to urge caution to the populace in the interest of minimizing further deaths. The nerve he has to undermine the Republican Party messaging over something as trivial as human lives! :roll2:

Geez. I sometimes wonder what level of corruption of common sense has happened that Rand Paul can make these absurd statements with a straight face.

Speaking of humility, the White House is pushing for opening, yet they themselves are on WFH even though unlike the rest of the country they have the ability to test everyone and do appropriate contact tracing. Talk about a modern “Let them eat cake”. Trump is about the least humble public figure I have ever come across.
