What are your opinions about ''upgrading'' an engagement ring?

Personally, I really wanted to upgrade my ering, and I had a budget of up to $25K to do what I wanted b/c it was our 10 year anniversary this year. But for some reason, when it came time to change the diamond, I couldn''t do it. I don''t know why. I just could not bring myself to do it. So I opted for an awesome RHR in the Tiffany Legacy, and then as you know I had my original diamond re-cut to ideal standards and then set right back into a solitaire setting. (Ironically, my diamond is smaller now than it was. How many people go backwards for their upgrade? LOL But it looks bigger, so I am thrilled with the decision!) Now, I did change from yellow gold to platinum for the reset, but I could have added pave, side stones, etc. to make more of a statement. But at the end of the day, I just couldn''t do it. I couldn''t even do away with my grandmother''s simple 14K wedding band, so they had to plate it in white gold so it would match. LOL :-)

Having said that, perhaps in 5 or ten years I will feel differently. Or maybe I will just go for another RHR to mark the occasion if I am lucky enough to be able to do so in 10 years that is. :-)

When we first got married, i didn''t have an e-ring. Two years later i received the first one. Now, 2 years after that i upgraded because the original stone was poo

. Since i never had one originally, there was no sentimental value attached to the first one i received.

My original wedding band though, that''s another story. To me it means way more than any e-ring i''ll ever own.
