What are you OCD about? What would you rather be OCD about?

I''m OCD about how papers are stapled together. Not so much the location of the staple but how the edges are aligned and the quality (!) of the staple. I''d try to talk my boss into buying a paper jogger for the office, but I''m pretty sure that would be detrimental to my reputation!

I wish I were OCD about getting making the decisions and gathering together the things that I need to get out of the door in the morning -- before I go to bed each night. It would be nice to have less hectic mornings.

I am OCD about which tile i stand on at the train station when waiting for the train (4th grey one to the right of the escalators where the tiles are white) to make sure that the train doors open right in front of me every time. I get a little stressed if someone is already standing on my tile. *crazy person*

I just WISH i was OCD about keeping my house tidy and everything in order and in its place... but i am just not that person!

I''m OCD about most things.

I wish I was OCD about not being OCD. Oh wait, I''d still be obsessing and that would be bad.

I am OCD about almost everything I do ... only thing I am not is typing and responding to forum posts. My posts are often filled with spelling and grammar mistakes.

Colors... patterns... rhythm...

Also, from working in retail when I was younger I arrange my money (when I have cash), all facing the same way, from smallest bill to largest. I also do that with cards as well. HMMM....

I have a couple of rituals that I have to do before I can leave the house and feel okay about leaving.

I go on a little route to check that everything is unplugged and turned off. I do this twice just to make sure.
I kiss each of the pets a certain number of times.
The most annoying thing is that if I forget something and have to come back in the house I have to do it all over again or else I feel nervous about leaving.

Otherwise, I don''t think I''m really "OCD" about any other things. I wish I could get over this particular thing, it makes me late.

I do that with my money, too! I agree--it must be from my time working in retail as a teen and college student.

OCD about writing documents in Word, must always have "show all" function on to ensure no more than 1 space after each word and exactly 2 after all periods. Blame it on Law Review in law school...

Wish I was OCD about eating right, counting calories, and exercising!

Do you do this when using a computer? Or only with a typewriter?

LOL Magsy -- I resemble that! Those are the standards in my office but not in some other units... I'm often asked to add material to documents created elsewhere, and for the first few minutes it KILLS ME not to go back and add a space after each period!

BTW you're aware that you can set these as your preferences, so deviations will show up as "errors", right?

All the women in my family actually have OCD. God bless our husbands!
I am OCD about textures so my DH deals with all freaky textures for me so that I don''t have to look at them.
On the more common side, one of the many things that I am OCD about is my alarm clock (has to be checked a certain amount of times and said out loud a certain way before I can go to sleep).
I wish I was OCD about leaving the house on time.

I am OCD about:
I wipe down my work station every day with wipes.
I clean my jewelry every day
People touching my things

What I wish I was OCD about?
Saving money

I''m so curious, now--what field are you in? I didn''t realize that anyone still used two spaces after periods anymore. Not on computers, at least.

My only OCD is stuff hanging straight on walls. Cannot deal with crooked frames, etc. I HAVE to adjust them. I must.

I don''t give a hoot about anything else being perfect.

I don''t consider this OCD. Banks used to count, sort, and store money where all money was facing the same way, and it is the way I learned when I started handling money on my first job. I cannot break this habit, because it is the right way to do it. Banks may not care anymore, but my money will always face the same direction and be in logical order. It''s easier to count, with fewer mistakes; and that makes it right, not OCD.

I'm OCD about checking threads here when I'm interesting in the conversation.

Also about keeping my teeth brushed and flossed.
I floss once or twice a day and have not missed a single day since I started at age 19.

Unfortunately by age 19 I already had a mouthful of fillings.

Sill my dentist and hygienist says my gums are in perfect condition and I will certainly take all my teeth to the grave if I keep it up.

I thought using one space after a period was the proper thing to do. Sometimes I use two though, depending on what I''m typing. Sometimes I think using 2 looks better and less cluttered, if that makes sense.

I'm in government, which probably explains that! It's still generally recommended for some typefaces (especially fonts with serifs, such as times new roman), though not necessarily for the typeface that's standard in my office.

Zoe -- I also think it's easier on the eyes & easier to read when two spaces are used.

VR -- yes, that''s what I meant. It''s easier to read something when there are 2 spaces.

VRBeauty--That's interesting. I know that most fonts (serif and sans-serif alike) designed for computer use are proportional, so they don't require two spaces after a period. It's the monospaced fonts that require those two spaces to look nice.

I'm really surprised to learn that some places still use the two spaces after a period as a standard practice!

I don''t think I''m OCD about anything! It sounds like such a PITA that I''m glad I''m not--whew! Dodged a bullet on that one. General anxiety, though...is a different story. I started experiencing panic attacks while driving or riding in cars a few years ago and that is no picnic. I literally have to talk myself through physically feeling like my vehicle is going to actually leave the pavement and fly off the road probably every other day. I''ve never been diagnosed nor do I medicate the symptoms but I''m quite sure I have some sort of panic disorder. I prefer to continue working through it and am hopeful that someday (soon would be good) it will go away.

I have an aunt who was terrified of driving over bridges of any length or height for many years. She tells me that one day about 5 years ago the panic episodes just went away and she hasn''t had one since. She still doesn''t know what the catalyst was.

Um. A lot. Way too much. The one that comes to mind right now is bottles in the shower - possibly because I just took one... I hate it when shampoo, soap, whatever isn't put back label-forward. Same for bottles and jars in the kitchen. Not sure why this bothers me so, but I will take the twenty minutes to reorient if necessary!

I wish I was OCD about putting my chapstick down where A) I'll remember it and B) the cats can't get at it! I'm always losing it - I must waste so much time searching for the darn things.

I''m OCD about having tumbleweeds of pug hair in the corners of our house so I vacuum all the time. Drives my husband nuts. I also can''t stand picture frames that are crooked on the walls.

I wish I was more OCD about keeping my car clean!

I have OCD that I'm taking meds for. The more serious OCD habits I won't discuss but some of the silly things are:

-I have to have all doors closed before I go to bed. Every door in the house: closets, bathroom, laundry room, bedrooms, etc.

-I can't hum songs unless I do the entire song, otherwise it drives me crazy.

-I need things to have a pattern. Doesn't have to be any particular kind of pattern just a pattern I can see. If it doesn't, I'll make one up.

I wish I were not OCD about anything because the anxiety attached to it is just

! I'm an attorney, and as far as I know from what all my legal writing professors taught in law school, my time as a member and editor on Law Review, as well as my 4 years (so far) of practicing law and drafting pleadings, motions, appellate briefs, etc., 2 spaces after periods is the norm!

And not just because I do it, I swear, it is how all documents I see from other attorneys are generally drafted! And I can tell of course!

God bless you Fiery. I have a son who is OCD from a brain injury. His things are doing things in three''s. Shuting door and making sure they are locked, spending forever washing his face, removing lint
from his pillow. I confess to you, it makes me nuts. He doesn''t take meds for it though.

My OCD-ness takes the form of taking off all my jewelry and putting it in the same place every night.
