Looking for some expert advice! (X-posted here after posting in Rocky Talky as well)

I used to want an e-ring exactly like Lynn B''s old setting, the fishtail pave from WF which I believe they call their Harmony setting. Then when I went on PS hiatus, I had a change of heart and decided I''d prefer a classic RB solitaire, with which I''d have more variability in w-band selections. I also now prefer the clean, timeless look of a RB solitaire. After I came back to PS I was amazed to see Lynn B''s new BGD re-set. WOW!

So I''m currently looking for a solitaire setting similar to Lynn B''s current one. In doing my research, I came up with the following questions for which I''m hoping more experienced PS''ers can help me.

Here are the references:

Lynn B''s new BGD re-set:

butterfly17''s WF Harmony setting:

1. With Lynn B''s newest setting, could the circle under the basket be eliminated? How would this change the look of the setting?

2. When comparing Lynn B''s old setting with butterfly17''s setting, from what I can tell, the basket prongs are attached to the band differently. With Lynn B''s fishtail, the prongs seem to come down to the bottom of the band, but still allow a w-band to sit flush with the e-ring.

With butterfly17''s ring, it seems that the basket is placed onto the top of band, so that the prongs don''t cover the sides of the band.

How does this slight difference affect how the stone sits in the setting and how it looks?

3. I''m trying to come up with a list of differences between Lynn B''s old and new settings.

-new has circle under basket
-new has straight piece around the basket vs. scallop on old setting
-new setting has prongs come down to the circle under the basket; while old setting has prongs come down sides of band

Anything else?

What about the prong tips? How would you explain the differences if any?

Are there any other similar settings I should consider? I took a look at the Cartier 1895 setting but don''t like the cathedral look. In fact, doesn''t the Cartier 1895 look like Lynn B''s re-set minus the band coming up in the cathedral?

I know my questions seem very picky but I think I''m finally honing in on exactly what I want so the little details matter!

Many thanks to all PS''ers who provide such good advice and inspiration for beautiful jewellery!

Puravida, It looks like you have identified the differences, now you have to decide what you like.

Do you want a wedding band to sit flush?

What kind of wedding band do you want?

It''s kind of confusing to follow what you are articulating b/c you are comparing.

Maybe it would be easier if you started with LynnB''s current setting and said what you wanted to change.

Sigh, yeah I know that was maybe a hard post to follow....I guess I was looking for more advice on what the actual differences are (in words) between those rings. I''m trying to put into words what I like after seeing the pics. Trying to articulate WHY I like certain settings I suppose.

I do like Lynn B''s new ring the best. I''m just wondering what it would look like without the circle under the basket. Opinions? I''m thinking that the stone may have to sit higher of the prongs attached on top of the band instead of onto the cirle? I''m not sure I want a w-band that sits flush with the e-ring but I wanna leave that possibility open. In fact, right now I''m liking a Tiffany Jazz style w-band, with bezel set stones 3/4 way around. OR I also like the Michael B. Princess w-band.

I love Lynn''s new set and I love the "donut". I prefer a gap between e-ring and w-band so that doesn''t bother me:-) For me, the donut is part of what gives the ring its beautiful profile. I don''t like the look of prongs coming out of the band as much. I think the donut gives a more graceful and high end look.

As far as prongs go, I am very picky and like the smaller the better, usually claw prongs. I LOVE the prongs on Lynn''s new set.

Sorry I''m not much more help!

THanks for your input. I do think that the "donut" gives the ring a graceful (ha ha BGD ended up calling it "Grace") look and a nice smooth fluid one as well. I was just wondering how people thought the center stone would sit without the donut. I don''t )think) I mind the gap that would cause against the w-band but then again I haven''t done much trying on in stores for a while. And I guess having the "donut" would eliminate the possibility of having a flush fit if in the future I wanted a w-band that sat flush.

in lynn''s first setting the top part of the prongs is a little more pointy - her new prongs have a much sleeker profile but I think butterfly''s has the nice shape of the first without as much point. How''s that for a tiny detail? lol

Little late to the party, sorry... and it may not even be relevant any more, but I just now saw this post.

I definitely think the GRACE setting could be modified to omit the donut. You''d just have to have the head of the ring made something like my old fishtail pave set. Change the Legato head to a straight basket, and "claw" the prongs, and that would essentially be it.

But, FWIW, why would you want to?!

That little donut (on the Grace setting) and the sexy little gap between rings is (IMHO) a very important detail of the ring that I just LOVE!!!
