I really love the thin settings, but I''m worried about it''s durability.

I was looking to get a replica of the Tiffany Novo which according to the sales rep is bead-set with 1 point diamonds.
I had requested a jeweler to make me a 2 mm ering with 2 point diamonds. She claims that it won''t be as "durable" because the band is too small/thin. Therefore, the chance of losing a stone is higher. Also, as she would need to set every stone by hand (rather than machine), there is also a higher chance that she would scratch up the platinum band. She suggested I go with 2.5mm or 3mm.

I''ve also heard that the pave setting can be used with smaller bands but there is an even higher probability of loosing a stone.

What are your thoughts? Is there any other setting style which can accomodate a width of 2 mm? Was my request sound and was it possible to create?

Hi Cvanavi,

I''m not sure if the 2 point diamonds would fit on a 2mm band. I think it may be possible, but somewhat risky.

Here is a Tiffany Novo replica that I got for my FI. It''s a 2mm with 1 point diamonds.

Good luck in your search!

2 point round diamonds run about 1.7mm in diameter. If set into a 2mm wide band, you only have 0.15mm on each side to secure the stones and give strength to the entire band from bending or cracking. You are pusihing the limit as has been suggested to you.

Thank you both for your advice. I will use a smaller point diamond then.
