Hi, I would like to know, if anyone can tell me just how much a an established jewelry store would buy a certain diamond from their sources? I don't have access to rappaport, but if anyone can give me a clue, using prices on bluenile or uniondiamond. Just how much discount would they get on these retail prices? Thanks for the info.

It is my understanding that there isn't much mark up on diamonds. I also believe that retailers buy from diamond sellers as well as from rappaport. Is this the reason for your question.. meaning are you looking to determine what type of markup there is on diamonds?

Hi, I would like to know what discounts the jewelers receive based on these online stores prices. Approximately, of course. Would it be in the ball park area of 50%, 30% or 10%? I do not mean how much the stores mark up their items.

Aggressive dealers, like the folks who advertise here, routinely work on single digit margins on loose diamonds over a few thousand dollars. They make their money on other things these days. Local stores usually charge more but they're still doing well to get 25%.

Rapaport doesn't sell diamonds. They sell data. Whether or not it's useful for an individual in highly debatable because it excludes so many important variables. These days it's largely a sales tool although it's actually a pretty good magazine.

The weird thing about diamonds is there is no one set price for a diamond, even more so than other products.
If a dealer calls in a diamond on memo once shipping is paid and the memo premium his price may be higher than some of the drop ship internet dealers to consumer sale price by a large margin.
One the other hand a dealer doing a million a year with a single supplier may get net 15 at a price lower then the drop shippers wholesale price.
