WHAT ARE EARRING PRIORITIES?

I BOUGHT A BEAUTIFUL E-RING DIAMOND! I WILL POST LATER ABOUT THAT EXPERIENCE.
I HAD A FRIEND ASK ME ABOUT 1.5 C DIAMONDS FOR EAR RINGS, THOUGH. CAN YOU TELL ME ANY INFO ON PRIORITIES TO LOOK FOR? I TRIED TO FIND HIS BUDGET BUT HE WASN''T SURE EXCEPT HE SAID HE COULDNT SEE HIMSELF SPENDING $10,000. I WASN''T SURE HE COULD GET MUCH FOR LESS THAN THAT.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APRECIATED. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Assuming round stones and 1.5cttw. (0.75ct./ear) a well cut pair of H/I, VS2/SI1''s should fit the bill.

I got mine from www.signedpieces.com and are 1.50 tcw and where way below 10K. They are ideal cut stones and are very pretty. Also try www.whiteflash.com, they have great H&A and their expert selection is great too.

3cttw. for $10K is totally unrealistic! He''s setting himself up to be taken by someone who will offer him two frozen spit balls of hideous cut!

Better to go small with emphasis on cut!

Sounds like K/SI and that's not necesarily a bad thing, unless the cut and seting is careless. Unfortunately, "lower grade" stones do not get as much manufacturing attention, even if the total cost of the piece is not small. Without lab reports, such diamonds have a good chance to be missrepresented one way or another (like Gary says above). So... this one requires careful shopping.

Other shapes but rounds would be less expensive... and "antique white" color goes well with cushion or old cuts. That might be an elegant (IMO) option if they'd consider. A pair of 1.5 cts cushions could be J-SI for the cost without allot of stretch.

Just an idea...

I think people can be A LOT more forgiving in considering diamonds for studs than they would a diamond for an Ering. Stones with more color and more inclusions can be quite spectacular if they are well cut.

Some time ago I purchased a pair of studs (from Diamondsbylauren) that were G colored, and I-1 clarity (

). Because they were well chosen and well cut, they are quite spectacular looking...you wouldn't guess in a million years that they are I-1s when they are in my ears! (edited to add: Or OFF my ears if you're over forty!!)

If I were your friend, I'd figure out the budget first, then have a trusted vendor look for the biggest, brightest stones he could find within that budget.

These are 3 carat total, $8500 old and oh so cute...

Seller says I/J VS without lab reports and pictures look charmingly clean despite huge magnification. The color might be a notch overstated for the price, but between that an "ugly" is a long way. Just an example of what I had in mind.
