http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3192758.htm I purchased this diamond and received it a few days ago. I don't know what it is but there is something about the table. It doesn't seem to sparkle the way I thought it would. It must be me. What am I missing here. Does the K color impact the brilliance of the stone. I waited a long time for this upgrade and decided to go with the best cut stone I could as no to be disappointed but something just seems off with it. Thoughts?

looks as if the cut is lovely.

Perhaps if you posed some pictures or a video members of this forum could give you further insight.

Ditto...could you take it somewhere that has nice stones that you could compare it to? Like Jareds Peerless line?

It's got all the right images and numbers so it should be beautiful. Maybe the color is throwing you? I have a small
Brian Gavin diamond that is a J color...I can see the color in it but I still think it's a lovely stone.

I know you just received it, but maybe it needs to be cleaned? Diamonds attract dust and oils very easily.

At what distance from your eye do you see this? Head obstruction???

16 to 24 inches give or take

The good news is that you are not stuck with the stone. If it doesn't please you for whatever reason, send it back and exchange it for something else. It could be the color or it could be that particular stone. I think sometimes we build these things up in our minds too so that we think they will just sparkle like magic. Diamonds reflect what is around them too so you might like the stone much better in daylight outside. Just don't keep it if it doesn't make your heart sing - regardless of the reason. No sense in being disappointed in something that means so much and that you waited so long to get!

Is this your first ideal cut stone?

Yes, this is the first ideal cut stone I have had. It definitely did not make my heart sing. Its very pretty and big but no wow factor.

Is it possible you have too high of expectations? For example, you always see videos of stones under spotlighting where they shoot fire and color. Sadly it doesn't do that in all lighting. I know photos dont really tell the full picture. Have you taken it into a department store, home improvement store? Maybe under a tree on a sunny day?

If it was me, I'd return it. I'd get a well Cut diamond and not pay the premium for a branded top of the line h&a. I might even consider other shapes. Of you wanted to update your ring to a larger diamond, sounds like the top of the line cut isn't important to you. And that's ok.

yes, Junebug,
I agree. Almost all the diamonds I've ever gotten needed a cleaning [or 2 or 3] to wake up all the way.

That said, I had a somewhat similar experience with my ideal diamond. It was beautiful but I never fell in love in a forever sort of way until I got my OEC. SO perhaps the OP needs to, as I think someone suggested, look at a lot of diamonds. I bought & sold and bought & sold quite a few stones before finding a keeper - in fact I would be embarrassed to say how many : )
Good luck to you, Ashley. Clean that stone in Dawn and hot water and look it in all sorts of light if you haven't already. If it still doesn't speak to you, then you are off on an adventure!

Jimmianne, I think you said it all. I purchased a OEC from Grace a few years ago it was beautiful and bright but the symmetry was way off so I returned it. I definitely think I am a fan of the older cut stones. I figured a older cut stone could sparkle like crazy imagine what a modern one could do. I am going to return the stone and take a break from diamond shopping for a while.

Neil, Cut is important to me or I wouldn't have bought a branded stone!

What I'm getting at is, like color or clarity, it could be that, though one is "better" , it may not be something you can see and appreciate

If you prefer old cuts but need symmetry sounds like maybe a modern old cut like vc or gog have.

Your right Neil, my eyes did not appreciate a well cut stone. It was by no means a dud it certainly did sparkle and was nice. I want to purchase a stone that has a upgrade policy that does not require you to double your purchase and whiteflash had that. The one thing that bothered me about the older stones is they seem to face up small for the carat weight. But I love the chunky facets.

That's understandable. Its like steps cuts... Some love them. Some want more sparkle. Its perfectly acceptable and normal to prefer one over the other.
What's the upgrade policy at vc or good old gold? I didn't think good old gold made you double what you paid but admittedly I never looked to hard into it.

As for facing up smaller, I'd say its worth it to get a cut you like.

Ashley, I just looked up RB stones with the same carat weight as my OEC and most were about the same size as the OEC.
Happy hunting when you get back to it! : )
