I found a 1.63 (H VS2 Ideal/ex pol/ex sym, No fluor, thin to medium girdle) that appears to be quite cheap compared to anything else comparable that I've looked at (this one is @ BN). I can't quite figure out why it's comparatively cheap.

Table 57
Depth 59.9
Cr angle 32.5
Pv angle 41.0

HCA 0.7

Are one of those angles off enough that it makes for a good HCA yet has crappy dimensions somehow? That seems weird.

Low crown. I like an idealscope with 41 pavilions.

Hi OP, I sometimes run across stones that look great on paper and HCA is under 2 and everything looks great but it's cheaper than it should be compared to others of similar specs. I'm not sure, but I think perhaps there might be a transparency issue with the diamond material itself (the rough). It might appear not as bright and clear as other well cut diamonds. I believe there aren't deals in diamonds, only trade offs. But it's hard to say, given the CA/PA, it might be fine or there might be leakage. We need more info.

I wouldn't buy a diamond with lower than a 34 crown angle and 34/41 is a good combination. In any event, I don't think we can know how good or bad it is since they don't supply idealscope images. I highly recommend only using vendors who offer images of the stone and idealscope images.

I don't buy from BN anymore either, but it's true that there are sometimes stones that are a bit better priced than others. Diamond manufacturers have very thin margins and need to turn their inventory rapidly in order to earn an economic profit. Some will have an excess or a shortage of particular types of diamonds. So sometimes one will put a stone into their feed to the various online retailers that is actually well-priced, by which I mean a few percent less than comparable stones.

This stone might not be rubbish by any stretch of the imagination but it is a combo I would want an Idealscope image for, it could be a lovely diamond depending on factors we cannot verify without images. We are so used to seeing near flawless/flawless cuts here that when you get a stone with proportions outside of the norm we need to look a bit more closely to ascertain whether it's going to be worth further investigation. I would say yes to this one if an image was available, but this vendor doesn't offer such services unfortunately.

Great, thanks for all of the feedback. My take away is Idealscope/AEST are a must.

That jives well with my thought that I'm probably going with WhiteFlash or JamesAllen when the time comes to purchase.

Thanks!
