When reading peoples posts, i always wonder what they sound like, so what accent do you have?

Now i realise that there will be many American accents so try and be more specific.

I have a very Australian accent.

Irish. Southern Ireland. I have a touch of the accent of the city I''m from I guess, but in general it''s a fairly flat, generic Irish accent.
I tend to speak quickly.

I am desperate for picking up accents!! It is so annoying, but I can help it.

Jersey.

Southeast US, y''all!

meg, is Jersey as in New Jersey? Is that the same as an accent from NY?

Canadian.. from the east, now live in the west. Many people find I have a bit of a strange way of speaking which I think comes from picking up bits and pieces of other''s accents (spent some time in Europe a few years ago)

:-) Pretty much the type of midwest accent that newscasters use here in the States, but with a slight addition of some Chicago vowels and some country/southern idioms (y''all etc). I grew up in western PA (basically on the Ohio border) and then went to college in Chicago, lived in Boston for 4 years, Louisiana for 2, and have been in NYC for 4 years now...

New Yawk, or at least that''s what out of towners (like my cousins from L.A.) tell me; but not Brooklynese, even though I was born and raised there. Also, I have just the slightest touch of a mid-west accent from working in Minneapolis for a while. Certain words still come out with a slight Mini-Apple bend to them.

Pacific Northwest (a blank accent) with a hint of southern. My family is from the south so when ever I talk to them I pick it up. But since I am from the PNW it''s not a strong accent. I have a nasty habit of picking up saying from those with "accents" though, so sometimes I get a bit of canadian and east coast too

North Eastern U.S.

So kinda like, NY, Boston, and some hints of Canadian all jumbled into speech. And I speak REALLY fast. Or so I''m told.

Being from California my first reaction was to say I have no accent.

Then I thought perhaps we all think we don''t have an accent since we are just accustomed to being surrounded by it.

So, I have a California accent - whatever that is.

Philly (Philadelphia PA). It''s similar to the Jersey accent.

I looked around youtube, and this guy''s rendition is pretty good... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3lZFiyd_-0

"Did you eat breakfast yet?", "No, did you?"... in Philly, it sounds like "J''eet breffast yet?" "Nah, jew?" We kinda bunch words together.

I think Austrailian accents are awesome!

Midwestern? Iowan? Heck I don''t know. I was under the impression there was no accent in the Midwest-until you get up towards northern Minnesota and the long O''s. We say things like innit/idnit and dinnit/didnit, for isn''t it and didn''t it.

Lynnie, that video cracked me up. Thanx.

I'm from Michigan, but Michigan is a little tricky because people from the Metro Detroit area sound much different from people who live farther north. I'm from south-east Michigan, pretty close to Detroit and my accent isn't nearly as noticeable as someone from the U.P. I guess it must sound like a newscaster except a few things are pronounced differently. Sometimes ts become ds, I would say little more like liddle. We tend to speak fast and string our words together (I don't really do that a lot). Another thing is we say pop instead of soda. Oh, in middle school I had a teacher (I can't remember where she was from) that said we attach an s to some places. A person from Michigan might say "I have to run up to Krogers and buy a loaf of bread," but I don't normally do this either. I've heard that we sound nasally too. Idk, my dad was a stickler for pronunciation so my accent isn't as noticeable.

I have a bizarre accent. It''s Dubai-Indian (and by Indian, I mean south-east Asian) mixed with central Canadian. I''m often told I have a very intriguing accent. When you hear me speak, you would think I am from somewher exotic, but India would not be on the radar.

I think I have a pretty neutral (American) accent. People from the South think I have a Northern accent and people from the North think I have a Southern accent. My mom''s from Boston (she''s mostly lost her accent, though, unless she''s around her family who still live in Boston) and my dad was an Army brat but he''s from Missouri (so no accent, really). I was born and raised in the South but I don''t think I really have a Southern accent at all. I have to admit that my husband''s slight Kentucky accent has worn off on me a bit, so every now and then I catch myself saying something that sounds super Southern.

Thank you Onvacation.
I love this subject.

I''m from Lawn Giland, my accent represents it pretty well.

For anyone who''s interested, a documentary called American Voices is a classic in the field. It''s up on Youtube if you want to watch it. Warning: it''s ooooold!

Pacific Northwest- which I believe is considered pretty neutral and the accent you hear most on TV?- with a bit of the weirdness from Kansas from my parents. Like "warsh" instead of wash etc.- all my relatives in KS say we live in Warshington, lol. I hate that!

My dad was always hilarious about accents. When I was a kid his best friend was Vietnamese. He would talk with him on the telephone a lot, and every time he hung up with him, I''d say, "You were talking to Visha, huh?" He couldn''t figure out how I always knew when he was talking to Visha. Well, it was because he''d mimic Visha''s Vietnamese accent back to him. Completely unconciously, and very very well.

Thank you! I am loving this thread. I am now attaching accents to all your posts!!!

I don't think I have one. I'm from the northeast (US) and there are a few regional accents in my area, but I've escaped them all.
